<p><a href="https://www.thebunkinn.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Bunk Inn</a> has it all: fabulous outdoor spaces, country cool interiors, 9 cosy bedrooms, and a crowd-pleasing menu that takes it just that <em>little</em> further than your traditional pub. Located in the leafy village of Curridge, just five miles outside Newbury, the inn sits within easy peasy reach of the M4 and A34, making it a perfect pitstop for families, couples, and well, literally anyone after a day out living it up in the surrounding areas. </p>

<p>Rest assured, it won&#8217;t break the bank. Small plates, bold flavours, and a big dose of the Med is what you can expect from the menu. But traditionalists, worry not. You&#8217;ll still find classic pub mains on the lineup too, from Sunday roasts and hearty pies to fish and chips. </p>



<p>Of course, a big draw here is you&#8217;ll also be able to cop a taste of Spain down this country lane. Think Mediterranean grilled meats, flatbreads, and aromatic spices, including tapas-style starters and hanging kebabs. Eyes peeled for their <a href="https://www.thebunkinn.co.uk/goings-on" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">dining deals</a> too which are excellent bang for your buck. There&#8217;s a great value kids offering too.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>

<p>Cosy country feels are dialled up to max with exposed brick, beams, a hodgepodge of chairs, quirky wall prints, and some repurposed stable doors now used as room dividers. I love the skylight in the main dining space which brings a sense of airiness to the area in what can sometimes feel a little stuffy in pubs like this. The locals and casual crowd aren&#8217;t an afterthought at The Bunk Inn either, with stalls and fireside sofas dotted around the bar. Pooches are welcome to curl up and hunker down for the evening.</p>

<p>In fact, the place is deceivingly big. The outside? Even bigger. Ample amounts of seating can be found both front and back, cocooned in verdant greenery and overlooking rolling fields at the rear. It&#8217;s a total suntrap. No wonder they went down the Mediterranean route. Arriba!</p>

<p>Pass me a Sangria, I&#8217;m going in. Actually, in truth, I started (and ended) with a Botanical Smash cocktail (Bombay sapphire gin, lemon, St Germain elderflower liqueur, blackcurrant, cranberry and mint). Yes, I was obsessed. Spritz, beer, wine, spirits &#8211; you name it, chances are they have it. There&#8217;s a great selection on draught too.</p>



<p>The starters simultaneously double up as a tapas menu &#8211; perfect for the indecisive who want it all (puts hand up). Grab a few and share, go solo, or make it your main and order a bundle. With my big brother tagging along, we opted to share three of the signature tapas: the sticky teriyaki chicken with spring onion and chilli, lamb kofta in tomato sauce, harissa, flatbread, and grilled halloumi with pepperonata, toasted focaccia, and chimichurri. </p>



<p>I was genuinely stunned at how incredible the flavours were. Punchy, rich, and each brought something totally new and fun to the party &#8211; all served on a nifty turntable. It was impossible to pick a favourite. That being said, I wanted to bathe in that lamb kofta tomato sauce. The chicken, sweet and spicy, was utterly delish. It was the definition of feel-good comfort food. I want to come back just to eat my way through the rest of the menu.</p>

<p>So, The Bunk Inn, what else have you got? It felt close to a crime not to sample the hanging kebabs. I grabbed the lamb kofta, meanwhile bro got pork and chorizo. Each kebab comes with flatbread and two sides. My truffle and parmesan fries and house slaw were both tasty. Maybe the sauces mentioned on the menu were forgotten because there was nothing to dip the bread or kebab in, and honestly it did need it. Despite that, the flavour of the kebab itself was divine.</p>

<p>It wouldn&#8217;t be me if I didn&#8217;t stuff myself to the point of torture, but my god were the puddings worth it. Waffle on a dessert menu is ridiculously underrated in my humble opinion. The freshly cooked (and warm) Oreo waffle with Oreo ice cream, whipped cream, crushed Oreo cookies, and chocolate sauce took me straight to heaven&#8217;s gates. I dare you not to drool over the chocolate brownie too. A bit of tapas and one of these bad boys and you&#8217;re doing life right. Make sure to leave room! It&#8217;s worth mentioning service was super friendly and efficient throughout the night. You couldn&#8217;t ask for more from a local country pub really. </p>

<p>You&#8217;re perfectly placed for one killer day out. If the kids are in tow, The Living Rainforest (home to a sloth, monkeys and more) is brilliant, and National Trust hottie Basildon Park is always worth a stomp. It was a filming location for <em>Bridgerton</em> and <em>Pride and Prejudice</em>, but no promises Mr Darcy will make an appearance. Newbury Racecourse is just a 15-minute drive &#8211; perfect for race days. Donnington Castle is a great nearby heritage walk with gorgeous country vistas, then there&#8217;s always Newbury for some good old high street shopping.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Families and casual bites. There&#8217;s something for everyone to love at The Bunk Inn, from the enormous outdoor spaces and cosy interiors to the diverse menu and nooks for casual drinkers. Day trippers will love there&#8217;s rooms to crash if needs be too.</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> This is a pubby pub through and through serving hearty, comforting nosh with all the feel-good factor. Don&#8217;t expect gastropub vibes and food that tests the culinary boundaries. </p>



<p><strong>The damage:</strong> Very, very reasonable. Tapas starters begin at £3.50, mains range from £13.50 to £21.95, puds are from £7.95, and grab a side for around £4.</p>
