<p>Oh, I do love it when a new pub opens in this neck of the woods. Especially when that said pub has Michelin starred chef Dominic Chapman and renowned restaurateur Nigel Sutcliffe at the helm. Opening this May, <a href="https://jackonewbury.com/welcome-to-jack-o-newbury/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Jack O’Newbury</a> will officially swing open its doors seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a menu rooted in celebrating the best of British suppliers. Situated in the heart of Binfield, expect more of Dominic&#8217;s trademark hearty, vibrant, flavour-driven style, plus a cracking drinks menu featuring local ales, English wines, and a concise line up of seasonal cocktails. Don&#8217;t mind if I do.</p>

<p>Inside the historic pub, The Snug will serve as the informal (and very cosy) bar with soft seating and a wood-burning stove for drinks, light dishes and spontaneous drop-ins. Then there&#8217;s the matter of the Jack O&#8217; Newbury terrace. It will be an absolute showstopper, overlooking the resident wildflower meadow and purpose-built kitchen vegetable and herb garden, and seating 20 guests in warmer months. </p>



<p>Fancy sleeping over? You can do that too. Stumble your way to the 11 onsite bedrooms, each designed by Bath-based studio Alfred House and spread across the main house, converted stables and a sensitively restored Grade II listed barn. It&#8217;s all ridiculously exciting. Not that I&#8217;m officially counting down the days or anything.</p>

<p>More cheffy goss, you say? My, my, you have an appetite. Ben Taylor is officially the new Head Chef at The Woodspeen, following a ten-year stint at Lucknam Park Hotel &amp; Spa in Wiltshire where he was Head Chef at the onsite Michelin-starred Restaurant Hywel Jones. Oh, and he&#8217;s also been recognised as National Chef of Wales. Dusts shoulders. Ben has already made his mark at <a href="https://www.thewoodspeen.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Woodspeen</a>, introducing a new à la carte menu, and will also head up the proceedings at The Woodspeen Cookery School too. </p>



<p>Over in Newbury, The Halfway Inn pub has been flogged to the Signet Collection (owners of The Retreat at Elcot Park) who plan to initially use the space as an Academy for Signet to train and upskill staff. Later down the line, plans are to reopen The Halfway Inn and welcome guests once again from breakfast to dinner. Fabulous news. </p>



<p>And if a liquid lunch is more your bag, you&#8217;ll be delighted to learn a brand-new craft taproom is springing up in Wokingham this April. <a href="https://www.bearwoodbrewing.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bearwood Brewing</a> are the newest kids on the block, whipping up small-batch craft beers which will be available at their laid-back taproom from 9 Apr at Anglo Industrial Park. Don&#8217;t miss the opening weekend hooley with street food, live music, and erm, beer. Obvs. Cheers!</p>

<p>Festival season is so close, I can practically taste the cider already. At Maidenhead&#8217;s coolest festival, the full lineup for <a href="https://www.fifest.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fi.Fest</a> (10 &amp; 11 Jul) has been firmed up and will feature none other than The Fratellis and Pixie Lott&nbsp;as mainstage headliners on the Saturday. Don&#8217;t miss Liberty X headlining the night before! The final acts at <a href="https://www.readingfestival.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Reading Festival</a> (27 &#8211; 30 Aug) have also been locked in too and it&#8217;s shaping up to be a Nepo Baby summer. Violet Grohl (yep, Dave from Foo Fighter&#8217;s daughter) will make her first ever festival performance, meanwhile Cruz Beckham and The Breakers&nbsp;are set to take the stage too. </p>



<p>At Wasing Estate in Aldermaston, Tom Grennan has been announced as another headliner for <a href="https://www.wasing.co.uk/the-mount/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Mount</a>, set to play the spectacular woodland amphitheatre on 2 Jul. He joins MIKA (26 Jun), Pixies (27 Jun), Belle and Sebastian (28 Jun), Ben Howard (3 July), and Self Esteem (4 Jul). Finally, the first names for <a href="https://www.henleyliteraryfestival.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Henley Literary Festival</a> have been revealed and include Nigella Lawson and Julia Donaldson. The literary fest is celebrating its landmark 20th edition from October 2-11 at venues across Henley-on-Thames. It&#8217;s set to be a special one.</p>
