Flippin’ fabulous! Where to eat out this Pancake Day

Can't think of anything worse than flour, eggs and globs of Nutella plastered all over the kitchen (including the ceiling)? Drop the spatula and make a reservation at one of these eateries instead.

Coppa Club, Streatley, Sonning and Maidenhead

Join the Breakfast Club and indulge in the fluffiest pancakes while surrounding yourself with dreamy Insta interiors. Coppa Club’s buckwheat and rye stacks are, whisper it, practically healthy. Go vegan with berries, granola and coconut yoghurt or not and add cured bacon, maple syrup and Netherend Farm butter. Three stunning waterside locations, only made better with a cheeky Bucks Fizz. It’s Pancake Day the grow up way.

Fego, Ascot and Sunningdale

fego-pancakes Sunningdale and Ascot

Muddy favourite Fego is always a great lunching and brunching option, and their pancake offerings are slightly more upmarket choice for this Shrove Tuesday. Go classic with a fluffy pancake stack with berries, compote and mint sugar, or all-out with their loaded pancakes – which is essentially a full fried breakfast sandwiched between pancakes and covered in syrup. If you can’t get to their Marlow branch, shoot over to Gerrards Cross or Beaconsfield instead.

Creams Cafe, Windsor, Reading and Slough

CREAMS CAFE DESSERT PARLOUR WINDSOR

For sugar addicts (or masochist parents prepared to deal with sugar rush), it has to be Creams Café where it’s all about the desserts, milkshakes and ice cream. There are loads of different toppings available on either an American waffle, a crêpe or American stack (we’re ordering the Crêpe Au OREO just because it’s all our favourite treats in one dish and here for the sugar hit).

Crêpe O’Clock, Newbury

Crepe O CLock Newbury

This family-friendly cafe on Market Place in Newbury is a no-frills affair, but with many of the delicious crepes coming in well under a fiver, it’s a dead cert for parents after a quick pancake fix. We’ll be ordering the classic lemon and sugar and Ferrero Rocher, Nutella food fest. Form an orderly queue. Available to eat in, takeaway and delivery via JustEat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo.

Cafe YOLK, Reading

Cafe Yolk Brunch

Fancy a pancake breakfast? Life is sweet at Cafe YOLK – an award winning Reading café that specialises in brunch. Plenty of classics to entice you away from avo on toast, classic bacon and maple syrup pancakes (add an egg if you like), berries, and the banana, pecans and salted caramel sounds right up our street. Open Mon – Sat 8am to 4pm.

AL Crêpes and Café, Bracknell

If you’re more a pancake snacker than a sit-down meal lady, then you’ll love these on-the-go beauties from Al Crêpe and Cagé in a hut at Savernake Park in Bracknell. Favourites here include melted gruyere cheese, roasted chicken pesto and spinach, and melted Kinder Bueno with Nutella and Stewart & Arnold White Chocolate. Enjoy that sugar high (beware of the crash). They’re open on Pancake Day from 11.30am to 8pm. You can order online, and it’ll be ready for your fly by 30 minutes later.

Colline’s Kitchen, Newbury and a UK delivery

Collines-Kitchen-Breakfast-Boxes-40

Any box containing fruit and granola is teetering on the side of healthy. Yes, there’s pancakes, syrup and cake, but if you could just focus on the strawberries and grapes while we stuff pancakes, that would be magic. Colline’s Kitchen offers this delicious breakfast box for two, containing six stacks, fruit, granola and yoghurt and two slice of banana and chocolate cake. Order online for national delivery in addition to local collection and delivery if you’re in the Newbury area. £25 for two people.

Joy Cafe, Wokingham

Crepes with chocolate, banana and strawberry. Top view. Tasty European or French style breakfast, table top view

Joy by name and joy by nature. This family-friendly Wokingham café has a menu jam packed with crowd-pleasing topping to perk up your Pancake Day order with a selection of sweet crêpes or savoury galettes, made with gluten free flour. From classic Nutella and lemon and sugar to peanut butter and banana and strawberry and smothered in all the chocolate, it’s safe to say the people of Wokingham and Bracknell are covered. Vegan option available and the prices from £5.

Bluegrass BBQ, Reading and Windsor

Bluegrass BBQ Smokehouse pancake banana bacon pork and sugar

If you love your pancakes with more yeeha than ooh-la-la, get your stacks puffed up like a pillow at Bluegrass BBQ in Reading and Windsor. There’s all the crowd-pleasing sweet and savoury combos you would expect, and some that may challenge even the most adventurous palette, like the Low and Joe – three-stack pancakes with pulled pork, bacon, vanilla ice cream, warm maple syrup and a shot of espresso for pouring. Yikes. Order online, limited ‘to-go’ menu.
