Flippin’ perfect local pancake takeaways

Can't be bothered with the faff of Pancake Day? Drop the spatula and order in from one of these eateries instead.

Holy crêpe, it’s Pancake Day or Pancake Week, if you live in my house. If you can’t think of anything worse than flour, eggs and globs of Nutella plastered all over the kitchen (including the ceiling, if the flipping goes particularly badly), then save yourself the hassle and grab a takeaway. Trust us, the kids will enjoy it just as much.

Crêpe O’Clock, Newbury

Crepe O'Clock FERRER ROCHER PANCAKE

These guys are opening especially this Shrove Tuesday (lockdown opening is normally Weds-Sun) with their epic selection of sweet and savoury pancakes freshly prepared right in front of you. Two sure-fire winners: lemon and sugar and Ferrero Rocher, Nutella, rainbow beans and white chocolate. Form an orderly (and socially-distanced) queue. Open 11am-6pm, available for takeaway, delivery and via JustEat.

Fego, Ascot and Marlow

FEGO PANCAKE STAND

Muddy favourite Fego is always a great lunching and brunching option, even when it’s takeaway only. The kerbside artisan crêpes include toffee apple, strawberry Champagne, and chocolate and caramel. That’ll keep the kids and grown-ups happy. There are branches in Ascot and Marlow with pancake stalls or you can order the full menu for delivery. Open 8.30-4.30pm.

Robyn’s Nest Café, Warfield

Pancakes at home a flipping disaster? Robyn’s Nest has grazing boxes with pre-cooked American style pancakes, plus maple syrup, Nutella, Biscoff spread, pecans, marshmallows, streaky bacon and fruit to top. They’re delivered contact free. It won’t be with you for pancake day but at least you’ll get your fix. Foooood coma incoming!

Colline’s Kitchen, Newbury

Any box containing fruit and granola is teetering on the side of healthy. Yes, there’s pancakes, syrup and cake, but if you could just focus on the strawberries and grapes while we stuff pancakes, that would be magic. Muddy award-winner Colline’s Kitchen offers this delicious breakfast box for two, containing six stacks, fruit, granola and yoghurt and two slice of banana and chocolate cake. Order online for national delivery in addition to local collection and delivery.

Joy Cafe, Wokingham

Crepes with chocolate, banana and strawberry. Top view. Tasty European or French style breakfast, table top view

Joy by name and joy by nature. This family-friendly Wokingham café has a menu jam packed with crowd-pleasing topping to perk up your Pancake Day order. From classic Nutella and lemon and sugar to peanut butter and banana and strawberry and smothered in all the chocolate, it’s safe to say the people of Wokingham and Bracknell are covered. Order via One Delivery. Sweet Crêpes or savoury Galettes available made with gluten free flour.

Bluegrass BBQ, Reading and Windsor

Bluegrass BBQ Smokehouse pancake banana bacon pork and sugar

If you love your pancakes with more yeeha than ooh-la-la, get your stacks puffed up like a pillow at Bluegrass BBQ in Reading and Windsor. There’s all the crowd-pleasing sweet and savoury combos you would expect, and some that may challenge even the most adventurous palette, like the Low and Joe – three-stack pancakes with pulled pork, bacon, vanilla ice cream, warm maple syrup and a shot of espresso for pouring. Yikes. Order online, limited ‘to-go’ menu.
