<p>Make like Lady Bridgerton to <a href="https://www.devere.co.uk/beaumont-estate/eat-drink/1705-restaurant-bar" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">De Vere Beaumont Estate</a> &#8211; an 18th century mansion house hottie located in Old Windsor which is steeped in historic significance. Formerly used as a private boy&#8217;s school, the hotel received a new multi-million-pound glow up a few years back, tastefully carried out to retain its original features while flinging the pad straight into 21st century chic. There&#8217;s over 400 bedrooms, 45 event spaces, and 42 acres of grounds to explore, plus it boasts easy breezy connections to the M25 and Heathrow.</p>

<p>Get your foodie fill at the two onsite restaurants. It&#8217;s the trendy <a href="https://www.devere.co.uk/beaumont-estate/eat-drink/1705-restaurant-bar" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">1705 Restaurant &amp; Bar</a> where the real party is at &#8211; your destination for cocktails, polished mains, pizzas, and of course, the afternoon tea. It&#8217;s a menu that celebrates the very best of British ingredients, elevated with just something a little different from the usual. Their range of Twining&#8217;s teas, fruit infusions and coffees wash it all down nicely.</p>



<p>Think Santa waits until Christmas to get organised? Errr no. If you fancy making it even merrier, there&#8217;s also a Christmas Afternoon tea version, served daily from 15 Nov to 20 Dec between 2pm and 5pm. It&#8217;s the perfect add-on if you&#8217;ve managed to nab tickets to Lapland UK or are planning to hit the Windsor high street for a spot of shopping.</p>

<p>Phewww, it&#8217;s stylish! The restaurant and bar feel a little like stepping into a cool Manhattan speakeasy with spherical statement lighting, herringbone-style flooring, wood panelling, and a mix &#8216;n&#8217; match of velvet upholstered seating. Prop yourself up the slick bar and pick your poison. I love the curated gallery walls stacked with prints &#8211; all paying homage to the hotel&#8217;s historic past. </p>



<p>It&#8217;s a very light, bright and inviting space with a door leading out into a cool, sunny courtyard garden (formerly the old school yard). Don&#8217;t miss the Penhaligon&#8217;s soap in the bathrooms too. Gorgeous.</p>

<p>Ahh, afternoon tea &#8211; the classiest way to pretend you’re too refined for lunch but far too fabulous to wait for dinner. Today, I&#8217;d be turning nibbling into an art form with three gorgeous tiers of De Vere Beaumont Estate&#8217;s finest. And boy was I in for a treat. </p>



<p>The finger sandwiches were served crustless and cute as ever with four varieties to munch. I absolutely loved the egg mayo with a hint of truffle. There was also beef with horseradish cream, cheddar with chutney, and ham and mustard mayo. Nothing stale here &#8211; they all tasted fresh, fresh, fresh.</p>



<p>A glass of fizz to wash it down? Don&#8217;t mind if I do. As I prepared to gorge myself silly on the next round of sweet treats, the glass of English Sparkling wine hit the spot. What&#8217;s afternoon tea without a bit of sparkle anyway? Onto the scones, there were two varieties &#8211; plain and a raisin &#8211; both served like they just rolled out of bed looking flawlessly golden and perfect. I like my cream as thick as my scone, and thankfully, there was plenty to go around.</p>

<p>As for the cakes, yum. On offer were a range of different macaroons that were soft and bursting with flavour. The delicate salted caramel tart had to be my favourite &#8211; oozing sweetness with a buttery crust. There was also a lovely chocolate mousse, as well as a raspberry slice cake which was like a shot of summer. It&#8217;s worth noting the afternoon tea menus change semi-frequently, so don&#8217;t expect the same patisserie twice. </p>



<p>I grabbed a pot of English tea (there&#8217;s plenty of other varieties) to go with my fancy feast, and both my fellow tea samplers enjoyed different types of coffee from a proper machine. Overall, the atmosphere just has such a lovely, calm vibe, and feels like a real sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of life. Service was also extremely attentive and friendly. I don&#8217;t think you could have asked for much more.</p>

<p>Windsor is knocking! Shopping, culture, and ogling the King&#8217;s bedroom is within grasp if you fancy heading into town. Just minutes from the hotel though sits Runnymede and Ankerwycke &#8211; the birthplace of the Magna Carta. If you&#8217;re dialling up the thrill factor, LEGOLAND Windsor and Thorpe Park are super close. You could practically crawl to the riverside for gorgeous walks, countryside vistas, and boat rides along The Thames. Idyllic, huh?</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-verdict">THE VERDICT</h2>



<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Grown-up gorging with the girls. This is a really lovely afternoon tea in Windsor with elegant surroundings and staff who make you feel warmly welcomed from the moment you arrive.</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> Starchy silver service seekers, look away! You won&#8217;t find hushed tones, white tablecloths, and the frill brigade here.</p>



<p><strong>The damage:</strong> Afternoon Tea at De Vere Beaumont Estate is £30pp. Add a glass of fizz for £9. Amazing value considering the setting really.</p>
