<p>Recently found yourself developing a keen interest in polo? Errrmm, same. And we&#8217;re not alone. A fresh wave of spectators have been flocking to clubs across the country thanks to the impossibly handsome cast of Jilly Cooper&#8217;s Disney+ hit <em>Rivals</em> (season two dropped in May in case you still haven&#8217;t already binged it to the high heavens). As a result, the soapy world of Rutshire has translated into real-life buzz for the sport, with polo clubs around the UK currently harnessing a huge surge in interest. </p>



<p>According to <em>The Times</em>, some venues, including Cowdray Park Polo Club in West Sussex, have seen ticket sales jump by 15%. But today&#8217;s polo scene is about much more than horses, handicap ratings, and hunky men with their sticks. Think cocktails on the lawn, DJ sets at sunset, live music and a young, dapper crowd wafting around in their finery. Polo has literally galloped from niche sporting pursuit to one of the summer social calendar&#8217;s hottest tickets. Here&#8217;s where you can get in on the action in and around Berkshire.</p>

<p>For a right royal day out, Guards Polo Club has long been a jewel in British polo&#8217;s crown. Set against the stunning backdrop of Windsor Great Park, the club was established in 1955 by Prince Philip and hosts an impressive calendar of fixtures (over 600 a year no less). A particular highlight is the internationally renowned Cartier Queen&#8217;s Cup, drawing some of the sport&#8217;s biggest names and A-list crowds each summer. Hayley Atwell, Lily Collins, and Felicity Jones have all been spotted, just to name a few. In fact, it&#8217;s the largest polo club in Europe in terms of membership and number of grounds and is truly the most quintessentially British of experiences. Beautiful premises (hello castle vistas!), excellent hospitality, and the chance to go celeb spotting among a stylish crowd of spectators? We likey.</p>

<p>Simply The Berkshire to those in the know, this Winkfield fave has been rewriting the polo rulebook since 1985. Founded by legendary music mogul Bryan Morrison, whose CV includes everyone from Pink Floyd to George Michael, the club was created to shake off polo&#8217;s stuffy reputation and make the sport feel a whole lot more welcoming. And it&#8217;s worked. Set across a beautiful estate just minutes from Ascot, it now boasts six immaculate polo grounds, an arena, a polo academy and stabling for more than 200 horses. The fixture list is equally impressive, with the prestigious Justerini &amp; Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy kicking off the high-goal season each May, alongside the ever-popular Polo Festival in August. A brilliant family day out. Even Prince William and Harry have partaken in a few matches here over the years. It&#8217;s just rock &#8216;n&#8217; roll, baby.</p>

<p>You&#8217;ll find far less paps and high society schmoozing around this neck of the woods. Fifield is the polo club for people who&#8217;d rather be in the saddle than on the sidelines. Purpose-built for the sport, the 60-acre club boasts four pitches, a full-size arena, around 100 stables and an academy that&#8217;s introduced countless newcomers to polo since opening in 2006. Uniquely, it is the only polo club that has club chukkas and games four times a week, so expect a packed calendar of tournaments and practice opportunities throughout the outdoor season. After that&#8217;s done and dusted, definitely make a dash to the clubhouse to keep things sociable after the final bell (don&#8217;t mind if we do). It&#8217;s refreshingly down-to-earth and incredibly relaxed.</p>

Tucked between Richmond Park and the Thames, and just eight miles from Hyde Park Corner, Ham Polo Club delivers all the glamour of your cool aunt&#8217;s country house party without the long, winding drive. Established in 1926, it&#8217;s the capital&#8217;s only remaining polo club, with three pitches, a lively summer tournament calendar and a gorgeous clubhouse overlooking the action. The real draw? Friday Night Polo, where the dress code is a different theme each month (classy, obvs), the cocktails flow, and DJs keep the party going long after the final chukka. Member or non-member, guests are encouraged to don their sparkles and have a good time. No wonder it&#8217;s become one of the chicest nights out around.</p>

<p>For those who prefer their polo with a little less pomp, Pangbourne Polo Club is a cracking find. Tucked away on the picturesque Englefield Estate, this friendly West Berkshire club has steadily built a reputation for producing seriously good polo in an effortlessly relaxed setting. With two tournament pitches, 70 stables, a dedicated stick-and-ball field and an all-weather exercise track, it&#8217;s geared towards players of all abilities, while spectators can enjoy close-up action without battling the crowds. The season runs from May to September, with highlights including the Pangbourne International, the Thai Polo Challenge Trophy and the West Berkshire Handicap Challenge. Bring a picnic, pour yourself a Pimm&#8217;s and prepare for obsession.</p>
