<p>A whole lotta newness coming in spicy hot. Starting with a brand new gastropub that&#8217;s <em>literally</em> just opened in Reading. <a href="https://risingsunreading.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Rising Sun</a>, part of the Heartwood Inns collection of trendy pubs, is located at 16 Castle Street in a gorgeous Grade II listed coaching inn (Reading&#8217;s oldest pub apparently). Inside find a tastefully suave refurb. But outside, the garden shines. Several decorated pergolas, a colourful shepherds hut bar, and eight elegantly designed and heated dining pods have our name all over it. The menu has a seasonal and sustainability focus that&#8217;s a bit of something for everyone.</p>



<p>Over in Newbury we&#8217;re cheersing to a brand new taproom. <a href="https://delphicbrewing.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Delphic Brewing Co.</a> will be hard launching on Sat 6 July with a big ole party in their converted double garage in Thatcham. The super-micro craft brewery produces a range of sessionable cask, keg, bottle and cans that will be available at the taproom. Plus they will be joined by a number of guest beers too. Indie power!</p>



<p>Speaking of Newbury, if you&#8217;ve had a mooch around the town anytime recently you&#8217;ll have noticed <a href="https://gails.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">GAIL&#8217;s</a> Bakery is due to open its doors on the ground floor of 1 Mansion House Street (near Market Place), any day now. No word when exactly yet, but our ears are firmly to the ground.</p>

<p>The Beehive at White Waltham finally reopened at the end of June under its new name and concept <a href="https://thebeehivewhitewaltham.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Milaanj at The Beehive</a>. On the menu, it&#8217;s Indian Fusion with a host of global dishes, reimagined with exciting Indian flavours. The 24 Hours Marinated Honey Spiced Lamb Rump sounds amaaaazing. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, there&#8217;s a kids menu plus a great vegan offering too. See you on the flip side.</p>



<p>A little birdy has told us that a new bakehouse from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/fegobakehouse/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">FEGO</a> is due to open at the end of July in Ascot. The official date is penned for the 11th and we can practically smell the freshly baked sausage rolls already. Expect all the very best homemade good like croissants, breads, brownies, doughnuts, and Oreo cookies. Yum.</p>

<p>Sophisticatioooon! Hot on the heels of its&nbsp;new Marlow restaurant, Italian gem&nbsp;<a href="https://piccolinorestaurants.com/locations/henley-on-thames/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Piccolino</a>&nbsp;is going for Berkshire border domination next. It opened another Italian hotpot on Market Square in Henley on 25 June. We hear it’s housed in a Grade-II listed building with 140 covers inside, plus patio and alfresco seating. Ciao bella!</p>



<p>Independent optician and lifestyle boutique, the <a href="https://www.eye-club.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Eye Club</a>, has officially announced it will be opening its second location in Caversham, in addition to its original location in Pangbourne. No date yet, but we can&#8217;t wait to see. Sorry, couldn&#8217;t help it.</p>

<p>Grime superstar Stormzy is a hugeeee fan of Padel &#8211; you know, the sport that everyone can&#8217;t stop talking about at the moment. If you don&#8217;t know, its essentially a cross between tennis and squash. The rapper was recently spotted at the Padel Hub in Slough as he filmed a video with YouTube star Niko Omilana, alongside Team GB padel champion Nikhil Mohindra. During a seemingly friendly match, Stormzy is caught unawares by the pro, not realising who he was playing against. Once Nikhil turned up the heat, he soon realised he&#8217;d been well and truly pranked. Yep, he didn&#8217;t stand a chance. Brilliant.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-going-for-gold">GOING FOR GOLD</h2>

<p>A huge congratulations to Adam Smith whose <a href="https://www.dorchestercollection.com/ascot/coworth-park/dining/woven-by-adam-smith?gad_source=1&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjwp4m0BhBAEiwAsdc4aMQkfMWRmNL6jn7ciozCykmBtRJiToDa04tsntC5FQFEKGUg0z1jpxoCSsgQAvD_BwE&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Woven Restaurant</a> at Coworth Park recently scooped number 38 at the National Restaurant Awards in the top 100 restaurants in the UK, as voted for by the UK’s leading chefs, restaurateurs and food writers.</p>



<p>On a more serious note, competition was fierce at the Pork Pie Off this year. Participants included Dan Roth of The Belgian Arms, Alex Parker of The Beehive, Stuart McLaney of The Coachmakers Arms, Scott Smith of The Crown at Bray, and Chris Fordham Smith of The Barley Mow. But it was Rob Boer, Head Chef at Hampshire&#8217;s The Mutton at Hazeley Heath that outshone them all with his exceptional pork pie with thyme pastry and a burnt onion jelly. Better luck next year Berkshire lads!</p>
