<p>Ta da! The AA Restaurant Guide 2023 has been revealed, and plenty of our local haunts feature in its pages this year. The one Berkshire restaurant that managed to achieve the highest rating of five rosettes (given to just a handful of restaurants across the entire country) is&nbsp;<a href="https://thefatduck.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Fat Duck</a> in Bray. The accolade means the inspectors felt the cooking was up there with the world’s best restaurants… Heston will be pleased! </p>

<p><a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/coworth-park-ascot/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Coworth Park</a>&#8216;s new restaurant Woven by Adam Smith was awarded four rosettes, which means the cooking demands national recognition.  </p>



<p>Seven Berkshire eateries got three rosettes, among them some of our Muddy faves – Heston&#8217;s gastropub <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/hestons-hinds-head-bray/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Hind&#8217;s Head</a>&nbsp;and Alain Roux&#8217;s <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/restaurants/waterside-inn-bray/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Waterside Inn</a> in Bray,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.artichokerestaurant.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"></a>The Loch &amp; the Tyne by Adam Handling<a href="https://www.ratedtrips.com/establishments/the-loch-the-tyne-by-adam-handling-0">,</a>&nbsp;Old Windsor, <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/the-vineyard/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Vineyard</a> in Stockcross, <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/restaurants/the-cliveden-dining-room/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Cliveden Dining Room</a>&nbsp;at Taplow, The Woodspeen in Newbury and L&#8217;Ortolan in Shinfield.</p>

<p>If you need a good cause to flex you credit card, this is it. Heston Blumenthal’s three-Michelin star restaurant The Fat Duck and four other local venues will be putting on their culinary capes to support homeless people this winter. More than 540 restaurants, pubs and hotels across the UK have signed up to support <a href="https://streetsmart.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">StreetSmart</a>’s annual campaign throughout November and December. A voluntary £1 is added to diners’ bills, which is then donated to homelessness charities. If your budget doesn&#8217;t stretch to Fat Duck prices, The Hind&#8217;s Head in Bray, Crown at Bray, Fuego in Fenwick Bracknell and Crockers Henley are all signed up to the initiative.</p>

<p>We were all crying into out consomé when Henry &amp; Joe&#8217;s closed in Newbury back in August. Good news, foodies fans, this perfect pairing have taken over the derelict Winterbourne Arms and are busy transforming it into destination restaurant, <a href="https://damson-restaurant.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Damson</a>. You can expect local produce, seasonal ingredients and flavoursome plates of food from Chef Henry Kremer Ireson. Keep your eyes peeled on their socials for progress reports and pop up events.</p>

The first floor Sipping Lounge is nearly almost open – a new space offering an exclusive use  tasting table for up to 16 people, after dinner drinkies and the opportunity to taste the fantastic range of 137 gins, fine wines and rare spirits – perfect for Christmas parties and festive get togethers. The Christmas menu has also just be launched, starting at £25 for two courses. Channel your inner Mariah, because <em>All I Want For Christmas </em>is a ginspirational night out.</p>

<p>Ding dong! Wokingham&#8217;s getting a new pub. <a href="https://www.thefoundrybell-wokingham.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Foundry Bell</a> will open next month on London Road, replacing the old Loch Fyne. It promises cosy spaces, twinkling lights, open fires and roaring fire pits – the perfect spot for cocktails, craft beers or a glass of wine. The food menu is a homage to pub classics and family favourites. Watch this space. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s official! Berkshire&#8217;s award-winning local producer <a href="https://www.villagemaidcheese.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Village Maid Cheese</a> has only gone a snagged another trophy. Its Spenwood has been names one of the 16 best cheeses in the world at this year&#8217;s World Cheese Awards, hosted by the Guild of Fine Foods in Newport, Wales. Comparable to Manchego and Pecorino, this 9-month matured hard-pressed cheese is made from unpasteurised ewe&#8217;s milk. Veteran judge, cheese expert and writer, Patrick McGuigan says the competition can feel like a mix of&nbsp;<em>Dragon’s Den</em>&nbsp;and “Strictly Come Cheese Tasting”. </p>



<p>To find the best cheese in the world, 98 “super golds” from the original 4,434 entries go to another round where a super jury of 16 judges each pick their favourite, then argue its case live on stage. Congrats, to the team at Village Maid Cheese, fox trot back to Riseley with your glittery cheese ball trophy. </p>
