<p>Strutting past, blink twice and you might mistake it for a nightclub. But allow me to let you in on a little secret. <a href="https://thevault327.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Vault 327</a> is in fact Crowthorne&#8217;s newest (and sexiest!) restaurant, having swung open its doors at the tail end of May this year. Formerly a bank, two years of blood, sweat, and tears from Kate Bourne and her partner Ronnie have transformed this place into a sultry space serving an à la carte dinner menu, lunch, weekend brunch, and afternoon tea, plus there&#8217;s a lovely offering for children too.</p>

<p>In the kitchen, Head Chef Mo whips up everything from filet mignon and pizza to duck and risotto with Mediterranean, Asian spice, and British comfort weaved into every plate. Expect the menu to mix things up — fresh flavours, seasonal stars, and a few curveballs for good measure. </p>



<p>It&#8217;s a stylish setting for slinging back a cocktail (or five), with a lounge area to the front of the restaurant for casual drinks. Psst, two-for-one cocktails on Tuesdays from 2pm &#8211; 8pm FYI. Another thing to note is there isn&#8217;t any dedicated parking, however nearby car parks and on-street parking are mere steps away. Easy.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>

<p>It&#8217;s blingy, it&#8217;s glam, and it totally owns it. Perhaps not what you&#8217;d expect to find down Crowthorne high street, there&#8217;s something totally escapist about the place as you step in from a drizzly, dark night. Think Ibiza cocktail bar vibes that feels a world away from the hustle-and-bustle of everyday life. The entrance way with its cascading waterfall and fully black painted ceiling is definitely a mic-drop moment. You know you&#8217;re in for a special night.</p>

<p>While for some, from the faux flowers to the blingy lights, the décor may be a bit like marmite, it&#8217;s actually quite refreshing to have something so wildly different on our shores. It definitely grew on me. The atmosphere as a whole was just buzzy enough, while keeping on the right side of chic, and the crowd was a mixed bag of family groups, couples and friends. </p>



<p>For a midweek meal, they had music volume levels bang on too. When the place first opened, they started out doing DJ nights on the weekend (there&#8217;s still the setup for this), however, it seems like a good move to streamline the restaurant&#8217;s identity to exactly what it is: a restaurant with banging food and great cocktails.</p>

<p>Dinner time! Not without a cocktail first though. I grabbed the Raspberry Bloom &#8211; a concoction made up of citrus notes, raspberry, and a splash of sparkling wine. Beautifully presented and very Instagrammable might I add. Oh, and incredibly delicious. There are all your usual suspects like beer, wine, and softies if that tickles your fancy too.</p>

<p>Choosing from the starters was the trickiest part of the night. The Beef Kushiyaki sounded incredible, but in the end, I settled on king prawns crispy tostada. Flavours? Absolutely gorgeous, comprised of lime creamed avocado, pickled red onion and burnt jalapeno mayonnaise. It was the perfect blend of creamy and punchy, and the prawns were hugeee. For some reason, I had Spanish tostadas in my head instead of the Mexican, tortilla version and the bread was slightly more difficult to cut into. But it didn&#8217;t stop me completely and utterly annihilating it.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, my fellow foodie went for the pan seared scallops with chorizo crumb, smoked pumpkin puree, peas, and finished with micro herbs. Sometimes it&#8217;s difficult to get the flavours right with scallops, but these were well-balanced and perfectly cooked. Yum.</p>

<p>For the main event, it had to be the 36-day dry aged black angus Filet Mignon. I&#8217;d heard good things, and boy did it deliver. Juicy, salty, and such a succulent flavour. It was more well done than the medium I&#8217;d requested, but it didn&#8217;t matter in the end as the meat was incredibly soft. </p>



<p>The dish was accompanied by confit cherry vine tomatoes, grilled portobello mushroom and crispy skin-on fries cooked in rich beef dripping. There were a few sauces (peppercorn, bone marrow and red wine jus, and mushroom) you could add as extra too. I would very much recommend.</p>

<p>Not going to lie, I was stuffed. Still, I managed to make light work of the warm apple tart with spiced caramelised apple and vanilla bean ice cream. The pastry was sumptuously flaky. Meanwhile, the other side of the table saw a delicious warm sticky toffee pudding drizzled with rich toffee sauce and crowned with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. You can&#8217;t beat it. Throughout the night, staff were friendly and chatty and couldn&#8217;t do enough for you. I had such a lovely time.</p>

<p>If shopping revs your appetite into a frenzy, you&#8217;re in luck. Head ten minutes up the road to The Lexicon shopping centre in Bracknell for your high street bigwigs, including fab department store Fenwick. There&#8217;s also Wokingham in striking distance for more of a boutique feel, or Farnborough isn&#8217;t too far either. The Vault 327 is perfectly placed after a day of fluttering around the stands at Ascot Racecourse, just 17-minutes by car. Definitely worth keeping in mind when nearby restaurants get booked up quicker than you can pour a prosecco.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Date night or mate night! Heading here for a meal feels like a special occasion or just a major &#8216;treat yourself&#8217; moment. It&#8217;s stylish, quirky, and the food is very delicious.</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> While there is a kid&#8217;s menu, The Vault 327 has a real grown-up feel to it, especially come Friday and Saturday nights when word has it this place becomes a whole vibe. My vote? Leave &#8217;em at home.</p>



<p><strong>The damage:</strong> Average restaurant prices for this neck of the woods. Starters are from £9.50, mains from £15, and puds flirt around the £9 mark.</p>
