<p>It was the restaurant world&#8217;s Oscars this week as the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland dolled out its constellation of culinary stars at the Silverstone Circuit. The foodie footprint remains largely unchanged with eight twinklers in Berkshire, although we are thrilled to see Woven by Adam Smith at Coworth Park awarded a star after just six months after reopening and sad to see The Woodspeen in Newbury lost its star after nine years. </p>



<p>The Vineyard&#8217;s in Stockcross&#8217; former head chef Robby Jenks was awarded his first star at The Samling in Lake District and the hotel&#8217;s former sous chef and <em>Masterchef the Professionals</em> winner Chef Alex Payne received his first star at The Tudor Press at Great Fosters in Egham. No longer of this parish but definitely worth celebrating.</p>

<p>Heston’s flagship restaurant in Bray has held three stars since 2004 – with one year off in 2016 when it was closed for refurbishment. It&#8217;s an unforgettable bucket list foodie destination, but strap in your credit card for blast-off – it’s over £275-£350 per head! Book your ticket for the Questioneer and let your imagination run wild. This is a creative foodie experience, when questioning everything is part of the assignment. </p>

<p>The Roux family opened The Waterside Inn in 1972, bringing with them fine dining at the highest level to the shires. Sadly the OGs Albert and Michel passed away in 2020, but their legacy is huge. Michel&#8217;s son Alain has been running the show in Bray since 2002 and the restaurant has retained its three stars for 38 years. What is modestly described as a ‘restaurant with rooms’ on The Waterside website is in fact a gastronomic powerhouse. I <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/restaurants/waterside-inn-bray/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reviewed</a> it and the food was French, fancy and absolutely fabulous. It&#8217;s got old school charm in spades, the warmest of welcomes and one of the best locations in the county.  </p>

<p><a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Executive chef Adam Smith (opens in a new tab)" href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/restaurants/coworth-park-review/" target="_blank">Executive chef Adam Smith</a> showcases his gastronomic talents by taking&nbsp;classic British flavour combos and giving them a modern twist. Formal fine dining is what you&#8217;ll get here – plates of food dressed with ingredients elegantly draped on a plate with tweezers, crisp white table cloths, attentive service and a copper oak leaf halo hanging from the ceiling. Adam is an exceptional chef whose assured top-notch cooking, adds oomph to premium British ingredients. Steep prices go with the territory, although the fixed-price menus are good value.</p>

<p>Heston&#8217;s laid-back little sister is <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/hestons-hinds-head-bray/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">The Hind’s Head in Bray</a> – a gastropub with crowd-pleasing dishes done with foodie flair. Executive Chef Pete Gray&nbsp;and Head Chef Edoardo Brambilla flick through the history books to find unfashionable dishes and bring them back with pizzazz. The eclectic decor reflects its royal and religious past, especially in the Royal Lounge where cocktails and snacks are a must. Food at this level doesn&#8217;t come cheap, but it&#8217;s also not going to make your eyes bleed when you get the bill.</p>
