<p><a href="https://www.cobbsfarmshops.co.uk/englefield-menus">Cobbs at Englefield</a> is one of the newer locations in the Cobbs stable. It&#8217;s located on Englefield Estate, opposite the gilded gates of the grand Englefield House and just five minutes from J12 of the M4. The menu is legendary – simple but utterly delicious –&nbsp;offering breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, a cheeky Sunday lunch and plenty of coffee, cocktails, tea and cake in between.</p>



<p>Don&#8217;t miss their array of fun seasonal <a href="https://www.cobbsfarmshops.co.uk/cobbs-englefield#events" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">events</a> either. There&#8217;s an Indian Street Food Pop-up happening Saturdays, 5pm-8.30pm on 4 May, 1 Jun, 6 Jul, and 3 Aug. Enjoy a Sausage Making Workshop on 15 May and 30 Oct, plus a special in-store sushi sampling on Fri 21 Jun.</p>

<p>Laidback with a peppering of luxe. The black shiplap barn has been transformed into a celebration of modern rustic. You access the café-restaurant by walking through the farm shop. This is the danger zone, because all the produce looks <em>soooo</em> good. Super-fresh, super-sized fruit and veg, artisan loaves and cakes with a butchery, deli, and cheese counter to pull on your foodie heart strings. </p>



<p>The restaurant is understated with exposed beams, country kitchen tables and chairs, and a lovely outdoor courtyard. It&#8217;s light, bright, and stylish without being try hard. Be warned, the secret is well and truly out, so if you want a guaranteed table at the weekend, you&#8217;re better off booking.</p>

<p>Nothing says easing into the weekend like a spot of Friday lunching. Enter me and my hot foodie date. My mum. At the time of our reservation, the café was suitably buzzing &#8211; a hive of activity made up of mum and baby get togethers, work lunches, couples, friends, and everything in between. After ogling the menu, although the Pimms was ridiculously tempting, we both settled on a milkshake. I went for cookies and cream, while mum went for the strawberry, and it wasn&#8217;t long until silence ensued as we both savoured every mouthful. Delish.</p>

<p>I wanted something to fill me up, so naturally, the butchers’ Wagyu Burger topped with burger cheese, crispy lettuce, sliced tomato and burger sauce in a Hobbs House wild bun and a side of skin on fries had my name all over it. I added smoked streaky bacon for extra naughtiness too. It was lovely and hit just the spot. I particularly loved the chips &#8211; salty, crispy, and fluffy. Nailed it.</p>



<p>Opting for the slightly more healthy option, my fellow food critic went for chicken parmigiana served with a crisp spring salad and Cobbs’ house dressing. She also added a side of fries and loved every bite. I copped a taste for myself and it just melted in your mouth. The chicken was soft, and the tomato and cheese topping was fresh and tasty. </p>

<p>After polishing off my mammoth burger, I didn&#8217;t think I had it in me to shovel in another morsel. Wrong. When the cakes look as good as they did, saying no is sacrilege. There was a ton of options to choose from, but we decided to share a slice of the white chocolate and blackberry sponge. It was soft, delicate, and not a soggy bottom in sight. Mary Berry would have done a happy dance. Oh, and the coffee is fab-u-lous.</p>

<p>Also on the menu, I couldn&#8217;t help eyeing up the other stonking brunch options. The pesto fried eggs on sourdough with crispy streaky bacon, avocado and “Belazu” pesto sounded heavenly, as did the three sarnies on offer. When, not if, I have my time again, I&#8217;d love to try the home-baked honey and mustard glazed ham served with two fried free-range eggs and skin on fries too. It&#8217;s a menu that caters to a range of taste buds &#8211; fussy eaters included &#8211; and it changes seasonally. Breakfast is also served until 11.30am where you can grab a full English and fluffy pancakes.</p>



<p>But on a sunny day do not exit Cobbs without hitting the ice cream counter. Scoop only, waffly cones and loads of flavour combos. The worst bit, running the gauntlet through to the exit. We grabbed some treats for home, but the weekly shop could become an expensive habit.</p>

<p>The stonking 16th century Englefield House allows you to waft around its manicured gardens every Monday throughout the year. Plus the estate hosts a long weekend of Summer music events – this year Elbow, Madness, Flackstock, and Pete Tong Ibiza Classics will give you the chance to go wild in West Berks. There&#8217;s a small but cute garden centre nearby, and for the super keen, The Movement Barn (right next door to Cobbs) is a boutique gym for you to work up an appetite before hitting the café menu hard.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">DOG FRIENDLY</h2>



<p>Absolutely. Well-behaved dogs are very welcome and many pooches were curled up at the feet of their owners waiting for a morsel to come their way. </p>

<p><strong>Good for:</strong> anyone with taste buds! Kids, dates, mates and cycling/walking pitstop parties are all well catered for whether you want a superb cuppa or something more substantial.</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> energetic kids who need room to roam. No play area, but the outside seating is big enough for them to potter about. You need a car/ bike to get here unless you&#8217;re super-local. </p>



<p><strong>The damage:</strong> Brunch dishes start at £9.95. The burger is £17.50 plus £2.50 if you want bacon, and toasties with fries from £9. Reasonable for food of this quality.</p>
