<p><a href="https://www.vitraininggym.co.uk/strengthtrainingforyoumuddystilleto/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vi Personal Training Studio</a>&nbsp;is more than just a gym. Based in beautiful Eton, the strength studio offers small group personal training sessions with a max of five people per class that are fully instructed by highly trained and knowledgeable coaches. The studio itself is a little pocket rocket &#8211; small but certainly mighty, with five individual weight benches (one per person), stacked with all the equipment you need to put in a solid shift. None of this sharing malarkey here &#8211; your bench is yours for the class, and the layout itself makes it totally unintimidating. It&#8217;s light, airy, modern, and screams boutique.</p>



<p>Opened by two kick ass women Abi and Sam (formerly PT and client), the friends have created a studio not just driven by results, but inclusivity too. There are over 10 classes daily – 50-minute, full-body, weight-based sessions with an instructor on hand to help guide you through your technique. No matter your fitness level or experience, everyone is welcome. The timetable is flexible, designed to fit around all lifestyles with multiple membership types on offer. They are open 7 days a week too. Goodbye attempting to fit in a rushed session between work, the school run, and actually having time to breathe.</p>

<p>Okay, full disclaimer here &#8211; I&#8217;m the first to admit I used to be a total gym-phobe. Just the thought of hitting the weights with a bunch of jacked up gym bunnies looming sent me into a cold sweat before I&#8217;d so much as glimpsed a dumbell. Thankfully, I got over that grisly era, but still I generally tend to veer away from free weights due to a total lack of confidence. Enter Vi Training Studio. Their small class personal training sessions sounded right up my alley &#8211; an instructor-led strengthening class that showed you the ropes and didn&#8217;t make you feel like a total novice while doing it.</p>



<p>The lovely Hannah would be taking my class on the Monday lunchtime I visited. From the moment I entered the studio, I was made to feel so welcome. Sam was also there to greet me with her gorgeous smile where she showed me to my bench, and instantly any apprehension or nerves were stamped out, stat. I loved how intimate the space was. It really just gives all the boutique gym vibes I love, and there&#8217;s honestly nothing to be intimidated by here (and that&#8217;s coming from me!)</p>

<p>The session kicked off with a gentle warm up, loosening up the legs and arms with guided band work and stretches. Then, it was on to upper arm work using the weights on our benches. We did a series of free weight exercises with 8 &#8211; 12 reps per round, including a bent-over row and lifting the weights into a T formation. Hannah made sure to do a full demonstration before hand so we all knew what we were doing, but even as we dived in, she was constantly on hand to guide you into the right form and make sure you were in the correct position.</p>



<p>Admittedly I was perhaps taking it a little toooo easy at first, until Hannah suggested I could probably graduate to the next highest dumbbell weight. Well, I <em>almost</em> got away with slacking. After this point, the burn really did ensue. </p>



<p>Legs were next. We did a Bulgarian sit squat, reaching our dumbbell horizontally to the floor while resting one leg on the weight bench. Again, Hannah showed us what to do and was right there acting as the reassuring hype-woman every person needs when trying to survive each and every rep. We were given another exercise to do too, and flicked between each one until the whole group had completed their set. Just to add, absolutely no one is watching as you complete your exercises. To be honest, everyone is too focused on their own survival to care. At no point did I feel silly for taking a breather, and frequent water breaks were encouraged. It was all about going at the pace that suited you, with absolutely zero judgement attached. </p>

<p>Furiously puffing and panting away, next came hip thrusts. Another reason I&#8217;m generally nervous about free-weights is that I&#8217;m always convinced I&#8217;m going to injure myself. And during some fast paced group classes I&#8217;ve done before, I have. I&#8217;m prone to back issues, and at first, although I gave the benched hip thrusts a go using the barbell, I could feel my lower back twinging. However, I simply let Hannah know and she helped guide me into an alternative floor position. It really helped protect my back while still giving me a great workout. But really, that&#8217;s what it&#8217;s all about. Having a personal instructor on hand to dish out that advice is just invaluable, not only for your health and wellbeing, but for your confidence too, and I could really see it then.</p>



<p>The session finished with a 100m sprint on the ski machine with the intention being to complete it in under 30 seconds. It&#8217;s a fab low-impact&nbsp;workout&nbsp;for building muscle and improving endurance, and yep, it well and truly finished me off. I was sweating BUCKETS. On the brink of needing resuscitation, with that, the class was complete. We did a cool down and some stretches, and then it was coffee time for those dying for a caffeine hit. </p>

<p>Super duper positive. It&#8217;s safe to say Hannah certainly put me through my paces, and although I could barely walk for two days afterwards, I honestly felt amazing. I loved the really intimate feel of the class and that I wasn&#8217;t the centre of attention like you would be in a full PT session, but was able to get help, advice, and guidance whenever I needed it. It&#8217;s an extremely welcoming environment that harbours no ego or pretention, and speaking to Sam afterwards, although it&#8217;s a space that&#8217;s by no means exclusive to women, 90% of their members happen to be female, which to me personally, is a big draw. </p>



<p>In my class was a total range of women of all ages and abilities, so the class is certainly not reserved just for the already super fit. Everyone was clearly on their own training journey and what Vi has successfully established is a community of like-minded people who support each other in reaching their fitness goals. Confidence-boosting, empowering, and you get one hell of a workout, gym-anxiety? I don&#8217;t know her.</p>
