<p><a href="https://www.nazidelji.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Naz Idelji</a>&nbsp;opened her light, bright and perfectly formed private reformer studio at the tail end of 2024 which you’ll find just off Ascot High Street in a purpose-built, tranquil outdoor setting (with free parking too). But this isn&#8217;t Naz&#8217;s first rodeo. Leaving behind her London studio after relocating to the area, she has since been building a loyal local client base. And if there&#8217;s any testament to Naz&#8217;s mettle as a certified Pilates instructor, the fact she still has clients travelling from the big smoke to her Ascot studio is a great indicator. Yep, she&#8217;s worth it. </p>



<p>Naz&#8217;s expertise and resumé of experience across 15 years is vast &#8211; having worked with everyone from pro athletes to those with debilitating injuries and disabilities. Her specialities include body reshaping, weight management, pre- and post-natal, and arthritis management and prevention, but most importantly back and neck pain &#8211; something she herself knows all too well about having suffered with severe pain through her teens. It was taking up Pilates in her 20s which completely transformed her life, both mentally and physically &#8211; something she now helps clients do the same through her personalised, 1-1 sessions. </p>

<p>Firsthand, Naz has witnessed clients achieve monumental results in their wellness journey. Within just months, she&#8217;s taken people from a life of crippling agony to living pain-free. Even today, Naz has two prolapsed discs and a torn meniscus which she manages through Pilates alone. There&#8217;s zero age limit either. Doubling up as the founder and creator of <a href="https://pilatots.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pilatots</a> &#8211; a kids Pilates class which helps children grow happy, healthy bodies from a young age &#8211; her clients range from 2 all the way to 90. Basically, I&#8217;m sorry to say but there&#8217;s no excuses here. No matter your experience level or ability, Naz is there to lend a gentle hand and get you exactly where you want to be.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-is-reformer-pilates">WHAT IS REFORMER PILATES?</h2>



<p>So, what is it, you ask? Well, A-listers like Elle Macpherson, Margot Robbie, and Hailey Bieber, all swear by it, and honestly, it&#8217;s easy to understand why. None of that celeb fad fluff here, reformer is essentially a type of Pilates which uses a piece of equipment, a little like a padded table on wheels, which is attached by a set of springs to create varying levels of resistance. There are strings and pulleys too, and while simultaneously pushing or pulling the arms and legs, you create a full body workout experience that also helps align and repattern your body into better shape.</p>



<p>Deep breath &#8211; the benefits are pretty unreal. Not only does it help tone, build strength, increase flexibility, improve posture, and prevent injury, but compared to regular Pilates, reformer engages muscles in really hard to reach places you may ordinarily never touch. This is where cardio falls totally short. With its focus on stabilising spinal muscles, reformer helps ease upper and lower back pain, and when teamed with nutrition, can lead to some serious weight loss goals. In fact, one 2021 <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/356092021_The_Effect_of_A_Weight-Loss_Diet_in_Women_Doing_Reformer_Pilates_A_12-Week_Evaluation" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">study</a> showed 12 weeks of consistent reformer Pilates classes could improve body composition. The Godfather of workouts? You could call it that.</p>

<p>Naz knows a thing or two about Pilates scepticism and I&#8217;d be lying if I didn&#8217;t say I also used to run with the &#8220;if I&#8217;m not profusely sweating, I&#8217;m not working out&#8221; crowd. How wrong I was. Sorry to burst your bubble, but reformer Pilates is <em>soooo</em> much more than just having a nice little lie down. And if there&#8217;s anyone who can inspire you to hop in your yoga pants it&#8217;s Naz, who tells me she used to be a size 14 before she took up Pilates and now, since practicing regularly, her body has totally transformed. She looks incredible, and yes people, she still eats all the crisps she wants. Goals (and motivation) right there really.</p>



<p>After a really warm welcome, we began the session with Naz asking me about my general health and if I was suffering with any stiffness or aches and pains in my body. I do generally get upper back pain (no thanks to being hunched over a laptop 8 hours a day) and from the get-go I felt very safe in Naz&#8217;s hands as she took the time to understand my body and my capabilities. This is what a typical first session with Naz looks like. It&#8217;s an opportunity for her to assess and work out of a plan of action going forward for what areas need attention and your goals.</p>

<p>We started out doing some neck stretches before I (very ungracefully) scooted my way onto the reformers machine &#8211; an event in itself &#8211; and Naz carried out some gentle stretches and manipulation on my legs and shoulders to loosen me up. As a total reformer newbie, I truthfully didn&#8217;t know what to expect. I haven&#8217;t long started doing regular Pilates, but some of the moves felt familiar. </p>



<p>Across the hour session I did a series of exercises which focus on different parts of the body. It included everything from leg lifts to working the arms using the straps in a V shape motion and a move called the crucifix (yep, it&#8217;s exactly how you&#8217;d imagine it). Naz then helped me place my feet into the straps for some core work that saw me in a frog position and throwing my legs out wide. Phewww, could I feel the burn. </p>

<p>With every move, Naz was right there overseeing it all &#8211; helping guide me into the correct positions and make sure I wasn&#8217;t damaging myself. It&#8217;s the kind of attention to detail you just wouldn&#8217;t get in a group setting. She also helped identify things about my body I hadn&#8217;t known before, illustrating just how much of a pro she is. That&#8217;s not mentioning the fact she had the patience of a saint, even when I repeatedly kept messing up syncing my breathing with the move. Oops. </p>



<p>Finally, we finished the class with a repeat of the gentle exercises and manipulations we started with. The only way to reward myself after my hardcore reformer sesh? A pastry from the local bakery, obvs.</p>

<p>Here to announce I&#8217;m officially a reformer convert, soon to be addict. The session with Naz was so much fun and she is the kind of person you instantly feel comfortable around. There&#8217;s zero pretence and zero judgement. I tend to get worried doing certain exercises in group classes out of fear of damaging myself, but knowing Naz was right there gave me real peace of mind. She&#8217;s an absolute pro and honestly, there&#8217;s few people I&#8217;d trust more to take me on my reformers journey. </p>



<p>Before the session, I&#8217;d heard horror stories of how hard reformers is, but honestly, it&#8217;s just different from regular Pilates. Not easier, not harder. You are just working different muscles in different ways. I should know as the next day I was feeling sore in places I didn&#8217;t even know I could which just went to show I worked some untouched muscle groups that clearly needed a little TLC. Always a good sign of a brilliant workout. </p>



<p>Ultimately though, there&#8217;s no denying the benefits of having a 1-1 session with an expert who understands your body and knows exactly what it needs. A private reformer Pilates class with Naz is an incredibly tailored and bespoke experience. If you&#8217;re stuck between choosing to go for group classes or opt for private sessions, trust me, it&#8217;s a no brainer.</p>
