Strike it lucky
A fleecy throw that's cooler than a house with a broken boiler. Cosy doesn't need to be naff and this blanket from The Corner Shop is proof. Hands off, this one's mine.
Mention the word fleece and most people will recoil in horror. Secretly we love the cosiness, but cool it is not. Until now. I discovered these amazing throws, £70 each, in The Corner Shop in Woolhampton. These bad boys are 100% jacquard cotton one side with cacti, deer heads, stars and lightening bolt patterns, backed with a baby soft fleece lining – neatly bundled up in a lovely leather strap.
It’s a brilliant throw for a bed (particularly for kids), sofa or just to fling round yourself on chilly outdoor evenings by a fire. The throws are 130 x 170 cm, so pretty big and machine washable (just don’t use fabric softener).
If you’ve not discovered the treasure trove of fabulous that is The Corner Shop, it can be our little secret. Shh… don’t tell everyone but it’s on the A4 between Theale and Newbury opposite The Angel pub. Owners Nina and Claire source the most amazing home accessories, scented candles, skincare, scarves, prints, cashmere, toys and jewellery. If you’re on there hunt for a unique, cool, affordable gift, you’ll pretty much find it here.
Want to see more? Of course you do…
Let’s start with the neon. I’m a big fan, and this ‘Bar’ sign is top of my Christmas wish list. Also available in blue ‘Party’ neon, but they’ll fly out the door, so snap one up.
Mealtimes can often feel like feeding time at the zoo, but while the fish fingers are flying, you can admire the splendour of these zebra placemats. They have a hint of House of Hackney about them. If zebras aren’t your jam (although I cannot think why they wouldn’t be. Obsessed) there’s butterflies, florals and more.
Statement cushion anyone? Fun, funky, colourful and it’s shaking its pom poms at you like it just don’t care. A fab pressie £35.
When you have plates this fancy, you won’t want to keep them hidden in a cupboard. These beauties need to be seen. The Corner Shop has a stunning collection of ceramic, but there was a lot of love for this stunning large emerald tree platter £33, smaller grey plate, £18.50, and the cute tea lights, £5.50.
Pop in and let me know what you’ve spotted. I reckon you can get all your Christmas shopping done in one trip. They also have a Wish List service, so you can write down all the things you love and you can send your other half in to purchase things you really want. No painful post Christmas returns required. Just lots more drinking, eating and loafing.
