<p>The WFH crowd will be gassed to hear there are a load of indie cafés in town to perch and people watch. Cool coffee shops have been springing up left, right, and centre including <a href="https://www.instagram.com/nookinside67/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Cozy Nook</a> and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/olacoffeecouk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ola Coffee Co</a>. The latter is both award-winning and sustainable with fabulous supper club events throughout the year. There&#8217;s a Thai, Chinese, and two Indians for when takeaway night comes knocking. Twyford also has its own village pubs: <a href="https://www.dukeofwellingtontwyford.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Duke of Wellington</a> and The Waggon &amp; Horses.</p>



<p>However, for more of a foodie flavour, head out to the surrounding villages. Try <a href="https://www.theshurlockinn.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Shurlock Inn</a> or <a href="https://www.crownburchettsgreen.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Crown at Burchetts Green</a> &#8211; all ticking the box for posh pub nosh. For those in need of a cosmopolitan fix, head into nearby Sonning where you&#8217;ll find the <a aria-label="Coppa Club (opens in a new tab)" href="https://coppaclub.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Coppa Club</a> and George Clooney (cooee).</p>

<p>What more could you possibly want? It&#8217;s got a Waitrose. Of course, you&#8217;re are literally a 20-minute drive or train stop away from Reading for all your high street big hitters.</p>

<p>Slip into your lycra and join the <a href="https://biacycling.com/club" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bia Cycling Club</a> &#8211; a community of strong, independent, and kick ass women who enjoy regular group rides and training sessions. There&#8217;s also a nearby snooker, badminton, bowling, and tennis club, and you won&#8217;t want to miss the annual <a href="https://www.facebook.com/TwyfordVillageFete/?locale=en_GB" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Twyford Village Fete</a> in August, held at Stanlake Meadow. Community is big here and there&#8217;s an entire initiative dedicated to organising regular <a href="https://twyfordtogether.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">events</a> such as football tournaments and the annual Christmas Fayre. </p>



<p>However, it&#8217;s the legendary Scouts&#8217; Donkey Derby you won&#8217;t want to miss &#8211; a firm fixture on the village calendar&nbsp;which recently celebrated its 29th year of thrilling race action. It draws over 3,000 people each June, alongside a ton of donkeys. Naturally.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>A good show is never far from reach at nearby <a href="https://millatsonning.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Mill at Sonning</a> &#8211; a gorgeous boutique theatre sitting on the banks of the River Thames offering shows and a meal. At Loddon Hall, you can often catch some cracking comedy at regular events that attract a line up of big name talent. There&#8217;s also the annual <a href="https://www.twyfordbeerfest.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Twyford Beer Festival</a> for music and plenty of pints flying around. Hopefully not literally. For West End touring productions, comedy, and big name music, <a href="https://whatsonreading.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Hexagon</a> in Reading is a fab local venue.</p>

So embrace all the regattas, from biggies upstream like Henley and Marlow to the more fun Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta in August when first-timers, local veterans, Olympians and university Lycra wearers cross oars. Elsewhere, you have a stunning vineyard on the doorstep courtesy of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.stanlakepark.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stanlake Park Wine Estate</a>&nbsp;offering tours, a bar and shop. On rainy days, make for <a href="https://www.theporcelainpig.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Porcelain Pig Art Bar &amp; Studio</a> and go ceramic crazy. Free fun&#8230; get those steps in wandering around Charvil Country Park and Loddon Reserve.</p>

<p>Don&#8217;t be fooled by the reported average of £573,995. Since the opening of the Elizabeth Line, price houses have unsurprisingly soared. A decent family house with a garden in Twyford will set you back £770,000+. Although that&#8217;s a good 20 per cent less than you would pay in Henley or Marlow.&nbsp;Semi-detached properties sell on average for around £550,000, with terraced properties fetching near £400,000.</p>

<p>Lots to love for littlies. <a href="https://sites.google.com/site/happyhourspreschooltrial/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Happy Hours Pre-School</a> (Ofsted rated Good) encourages both indoor and outdoor play for children aged 2.5 to 5 years and is located within the grounds of&nbsp;Polehampton Infant School. There&#8217;s also <a href="https://childbasepartnership.com/nursery/cedar-park-day-nursery/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cedar Park Day Nursery</a>, boasting 2.5 acres of beautiful gardens to stomp around in, plus <a href="https://wargravepreschool.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wargrave Preschool</a> has a good reputation.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p>If you&#8217;re thinking state, <a aria-label="Polehampton Infant and Junior School (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.polehampton.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Polehampton Infant and Junior School</a> has an outstanding reputation and are both rated Oftsed Good, but demand for places is fierce, so you&#8217;ll need to put your map reading skills to the test. Another good option is <a aria-label="Charvil Piggott Primary (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.piggottschool.org/page/?title=The+Piggott+School%3A+Charvil+Primary&amp;pid=3" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Charvil Piggott Primary</a> which feeds into the excellent <a aria-label="The Piggott School (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.piggottschool.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Piggott School</a> (both rated Ofsted Good). Not forgetting Reading&#8217;s grammar schools. </p>

If you don’t mind travelling a little further, <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/heathfield-school-ascot-berkshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Heathfield School</a> and <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/queen-annes-caversham/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Queen Anne&#8217;s</a> in Caversham are great options.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Mr Tuuuuumble! Your kids could follow in the footsteps of a <em>CBeebies</em> demigod. I am reliably informed he was a pupil at Polehampton CofE Infant School. Another fun fact, Twyford claims to have the oldest badminton club in the country. Better dust off the racket.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>This is gold plated commuter territory. Twyford is just a 20 mins drive from both the M4 and M40. If you&#8217;re chugging into London, Reading, Maidenhead or Oxford by train, then you&#8217;ll being loving the rail links. There are countless trains per day running from Twyford to Paddington, with the fastest journey taking 39 mins. But the biggie is the Elizabeth Line which allows you to whizz into Bond Street in 55 mins, Liverpool Street in 60 mins and Canary Wharf in just smidge over an hour. The direct link to Heathrow Airport is absolute gold dust. </p>
