<p>Star of <em>Pride and Prejudice, The Duchess, Marie-Antoinette, Dorian Grey</em> and <em>Downton Abbey</em>, <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/oxfordshire-buckinghamshire-berkshire/basildon-park" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Basildon Park</a> boasts jaw-dropping views and gardens that perfectly reflect the seasons, thanks to a naturalistic approach to planting. And that means seas of gorgeous cheery yellow daffs. You might also spot buttercups and bluebells. With four way-marked paths – including options for little legs and buggies, get your camera ready to capture the glorious yellow backdrop.</p>

<p>Fresh air and a mindful meander around some of Berkshire’s beautiful estates. Head to <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/ashdown" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ashdown House</a>, the National Trust’s under the radar Dutch-style country house near Lambourn, built by Lord William Craven for Elizabeth Stuart – the woman known as the Winter Queen. It&#8217;s a great spot to wander around the ornamental parterre garden and ancient woodland where you&#8217;ll see daffodils, Balleroy Highland ponies and Alfred&#8217;s Castle.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/oxfordshire-buckinghamshire-berkshire/cliveden" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cliveden</a> in spring is a sight to behold with carpets of daffodils as far as the eye can see. Muddy recommends heading to Blenheim Pavilion at the end of the Long Garden for particularly gorgeous blooms. Make sure you don’t miss the show-stopping six acre south parterre, a Cliveden highlight. The gardening team plant some 30,000 bedding plants and bulbs along here, including heirloom daffodils. If you’re feeling frisky, try rolling down the parterre slope &#8211; don’t let the kids have all the fun!</p>

<p>A smidge over the border in Henley, but worth the trip to see the magical walled gardens, you&#8217;ll find neatly clipped topiary and winding paths at Elizabethan estate <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/oxfordshire-buckinghamshire-berkshire/greys-court" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Greys Court</a>. Alongside the orchard – featuring miniature pear and apple trees – the flower beds are full to brimming with daffodils (and tulips too). The Cowshed Tea Room is open daily for hot food and snacks if you need to refuel. </p>

<p>Visit this enchanting woodland of trails and floral displays, including exquisite miniature daffodils. They’re so impressive the area is called Daffodil Valley (located in the Valley Gardens). You’ll also spot daffs in Spring Wood at <a href="https://www.windsorgreatpark.co.uk/en/experiences/the-savill-garden" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Savill Garden</a> (both <a href="https://www.windsorgreatpark.co.uk/en/experiences/virginia-water" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Virgina Water</a> and The Savill Garden are part of the gorgeous <a href="https://www.windsorgreatpark.co.uk/en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Windsor Great Park</a> estate). This is bird nesting season too, so try and keep the kids quiet and you might spot some fledglings or, you’re really lucky, the young deer in Deer Park.</p>

<p>The biggest star of <em>Downton Abbey</em>? No, Carson it’s not you or the Earl of Grantham’s labradors – <a href="https://www.highclerecastle.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Highclere Castle </a>takes the crown. Daffodils are breaking for cover in the Capability Brown gardens of Earl and Countess Carnarvon&#8217;s ancestral home. Head over from 30 Mar for the Spring Public Openings, costing £22.50pp. </p>

<p>A stunning, 500 year-old Tudor manor house-turned-family home, <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/hampshire/the-vyne" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Vyne</a> is one of the largest properties in Hampshire (it’s just across the Berks border). Daffodils can be seen in abundance on the south drive by the mansion and they line the paths through the walled gardens too. You’ll also see spring blossom in the orchard where heritage varieties of apple, pear and plum grow. Once you’ve had a good explore, head for a deckchair and take in the lovely views across the lake to the parkland and woods beyond. If you sit there long enough, the bluebells will be out in May!</p>

<p>National Trust treasure <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/hampshire/sandham-memorial-chapel" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sandham Memorial Chapel</a> is a 1920s red-brick building located in a quiet corner of Hampshire, near Newbury. Designed for reflection and peace, there are plenty of places to sit and take in the beautiful spring blooms. There’s a pretty cottage-style garden and an orchard but the best place for daffs is undoubtedly the meadow, which bursts into life in the spring, with the yellow flowers popping their heads up before wild flowers follow. There’s no cafe onsite but it’s a lovely spot for a picnic and there’s a pub, The Carpenters Arms, just across the road.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/oxfordshire-buckinghamshire-berkshire/nuffield-place" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nuffield Place</a>, near Henley</h2>



<p><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/oxfordshire-buckinghamshire-berkshire/nuffield-place" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nuffield Place</a> was once home to one of the richest men of the 20th century, Lord Nuffield, founder of Morris Motor Cars. Today the four-acre garden is the perfect place for a spring stroll. Inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement, wander along the criss-crossing paths through a combo of lawns and mixed beds which retain their original irregular shapes with brick edges, the perfect home for sunny daffodils. There’s also magnolia and cherry trees to enjoy, while in late spring the wisteria blooms around the house. Bliss!</p>

You’ll cross meadows, woodlands and (endangered) chalk grasslands with panoramic views towards the Chiltern Hills, the North Wessex Downs and the Oxford Vale, with glimpses of the River Thames as it passes through the Goring Gap. </p>
