This Muddy award-winning family attraction is brilliant for younger children who can be free range in this safe environment. <p>You really can’t beat this spectacular playground with a sprinkling of woodland magic that is Tumblestone Hollow at Stonor Park. Themed around a fairytale about a group of whimsical characters led by Obsidian, they guard the stone circle that’s in the grounds of the stately home. The playground itself is packed with twisty slides, zip lines, rope bridges, water pumps and treehouses – it packs a real punch and it’s ideal for letting the kids burn off a little of that pent-up energy. Aimed at 4-12 year olds, it’s over an acre in all including a sand and water play area for smaller kids. It extends out of the woodland in the park, creating a natural, magical feel.</p>

<p>Opened just two years ago, the playground at California Country Park is home to the Sensory Garden, which is perfect for toddlers to splash about in, and the Wild Wood, packed with slides, tree houses and zip wires for older children to throw themselves at. Enjoy!</p>

<p>A 400-acre site that has something for everyone – an award-winning playground, big lake, woodland and crazy golf course. <a href="https://www.dinton-pastures.co.uk/plan-your-visit">Dinton Pastures Country Park</a> is basically a sanctuary for frazzled parents. The play space has been designed to help kids connect with nature with an emphasis on tactile and sensory play. Think giant nest towers, monkey bars, funnel trap nests, secret hobbit holes and giant swinging and climbing logs. The more adventurous can enjoy giant nest towers and a woodland obstacle course. A timber bridge connects two large grassy mounds with a secret hidey-hole to find. There’s also a large storytelling area complete with giant wooden eggs. You just need to pay for parking (£2 for four hours &#8211; bargain!).</p>

<p><a href="https://www.blenheimpalace.com/">Blenheim Palace</a> has a <a href="https://www.blenheimpalace.com/adventure-play/">fabulous playground</a> within its walled garden &#8211; it’s a world of adventure where young explorers of all ages can clamber, climb, paddle, slide, splash and zip through the different zones. There’s stepping stones to balance on (or have a splash in the winding river underneath!), a potting shed with giant carrots, huge sunflowers and a spider web to climb up or head straight to the Wilderness &#8211; created for thrill seekers &#8211; complete with triple racing ziplines. Don’t miss the boathouse featuring wonky mirrors, a lookout balcony and wobbly boat. <p>Set in some 2,700 acres of woodland, there’s a great outdoor playground at the Look Out, which includes a toddler trail for those aged 3 &#8211; 6 years and an amazing fort for those aged 7 &#8211; 11 years, plus areas suitable for everyone to enjoy. Should rain stop play, head inside to the impressive interactive science exhibition. There’s lots of places for picnics and Go Ape is on site too.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-hughenden-manor-near-high-wycombe"><a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/day-trips/family-picnic-walks-hughenden-manor-buckinghamshire/">Hughenden Manor</a>, near High Wycombe</h2>



<p>You’ll find this former house of PM Disraeli, high in the Chilterns in its Victorian red-brick splendour with the Hughenden Valley beneath. The National Trust site has a lovely woodland play area for children. It’s deliberately simple to encourage imagination, with everything wooden – carved from giant fallen trees – with rope walkways, nooks and crannies and head-height climbing. It’s relatively small, aimed at those under 10, so don’t think you’re booting your tweens and teens in there for hours!</p>

<p>Muddy award-winning family attraction <a href="https://wellington-country-park.co.uk/">Wellington Country Park</a> has got it all – an awesome adventure play area with giant zip wire, dinosaurs, mini golf, animal farm, jumbo bouncy pillow, miniature railway and more. Release the children and enjoy five minutes’ peace: there’s a swashbuckling pirates ship, the HMS Duke of Wellington, named after the founder who opened the park in 1974 for local families. Little ones have their own play zone with sand pits, water play and diggers. There’s also a superb cafe serving quality local produce – much of it from the Wellington Estate itself.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-waddesdon-manor-aylesbury"><a href="https://waddesdon.org.uk/">Waddesdon Manor</a>, Aylesbury</h2>



<p>Yes, you have to pay National Trust entry but make a day of it as with the aviary, the house, parterre and stables – serving hot food and ice cream – there is loads to do. The adventure playground here is fab though, and worth the ticket price alone. Set into a hillside and on several different levels, there is a new tube slide, plus a zip line, see-saw, bucket swing, rope bridge and rope walls, stepping stones, and a little self-contained playpark at the bottom for smaller kids. Literally, hours of fun.</p>
