The Greyhound, Finchampstead

Gastropub heaven at The Greyhound Finchampstead. This stonking foodie pub near Wokingham is close to woodland walks and is very family-friendly. We likey a lot.

Sashay your way into Wokingham’s countryside and you’ll discover The Greyhound in Finchampstead. This modern gastropub is an absolute corker, part of the Brucan Pubs collection (alongside The Greene Oak Windsor and The White Oak in Cookham).

The atmosphere is relaxed, the food unpretentious. But we would expect nothing less from owner James Lyon Shaw who started his career at The Ivy in London. In fact, they shout from the rooftops that they don’t do tiny portions, deconstructed dishes, frills or foams – just superb food.

Inside is a stylish yet relaxed pub perfect for meeting, socialising and dining. Whatever the occasion, you will not be disappointed. Last year, they even opened up two trendy ochres lanes for interactive darts which is brilliant fun. There is seating for around 15 people to hang, eat, and drink between throws, and it’s perfect for all ages. You can even order food and drink direct to your ochre.

Although it’s a pretty big pub, it manages to carve out areas that feel intimate and cosy. We love the cute sunny terrace garden surrounded by trees which offers tables and cosy wagons for an al fresco experience.

The menu is traditional with all the culinary flair you’d expect from a top notch gastropub. Menus are seasonal and each of the Brucan Pubs has exclusive dishes. Here, you’ll get the iconic Beef Wellington and oysters. They also have a beautifully curated wine list with a number of English wines to try. The cocktail menu is definitely something to behold too. Add their Secret Supper Club and Shellfish Saturday to the foodie wish list too.
