Fancy a day at the races? No need to get a sitter, they’re surprisingly family-friendly. But if you want to dip your toe in, Ascot’s Spring Family Raceday (Sun 2 Apri) is a fab event with loooooads to entertain the kids. From ferret racing and dog demos to free pony rides and countryside crafts, it’s day out that ticks the boxes for little and large. WACKY RACES

It’s not just the horses competing for best in show. The raceday has a wholesome countryside theme, so you’ll also find dogs jumping through hoops and over fences, ferret racing, sheep dog demos, pony rides, meet alpacas. On the race track, there are seven races and my kids really enjoy watching. We usually back one and cheer them to the finish line – no betting necessarily, just for fun. If you’re kids love animals, this is the place to get up close and personal in a really safe space that won’t scare the proverbial horses.

For you and your kids. Cruise the bar for a glass of bubbles before heading out into the Queen Anne Enclosure where there is a ton of activities to keep a smile on your face and your kids. Let them take the reins on a pony ride, learn woodcraft country skills, enjoy an Easter-themed crafternoon, face painting bubbles, climbing wall and more. I defy them to say ‘I’m bored’.

FED AND WATERED

Take advantage of the array of food on offer and indulge your fussy eaters’ whims. If you foodie family dynamic is as eclectic as mine, you’ll breathe a sigh of relief at the choice available. Plus all kids meals are £5. So run don’t walk, because not only are you free from Sunday roast duty, no washing up and no one pushing peas around their plate moaning ‘I don’t like it’. Warning: there is a Pick n Mix stand, which your kids will love, but will bankrupt you at the weigh in. For a more formal dining, head to ON 5 Restaurant or the more traditional Parade Ring Restaurant.
