Wellington Riding, Riseley
If you’re horsey mad, trot along to Wellington Riding for first class facilities, fresh air and fun in 300 acres of glorious Hampshire countryside.
Saddle up! If you or your kids love horses and want to ride, then feast your eyes on Wellington Riding. The facilities alone will blow your mind, but the clubs, holiday camps, competitions and events will have you galloping along to get involved.
Wellington Riding is one of the UK’s biggest and best-known equestrian centres. Set in 300 acres of the Duke of Wellington’s beautiful estate on the Berkshire-Hampshire border. It’s a British Horse Society Approved Riding School and Livery Yard with the horses, ponies, coaches and facilities to suit the needs of every rider – from absolute beginners to aspiring competition riders with their own horse.
You are never too old to get in the saddle for the first time and Wellington Riding run lessons for adults and kids (from the age of 5). Everyone starts with half hour one-to-one sessions to help build confidence and learn the basics, before moving on to one-hour group lessons. For more experienced riders, the first class tuition and buzzy community is hard to resist.
Once you’ve got a taste for it, there are clubs you can join, week-long holidays and school holiday camps and if you don’t have your own pony, it’s neigghhhhh problem (sorry, couldn’t resist), you can adopt one from Wellington Riding.
Of course, if your jodhpur-wearing days are over you can always pop a long and watch. The Club House has a cafe with a view of the horsey action and a Wellington Farm Shop inspired menu (plus free wifi). There are a lot events – horse trials, show jumping and dressage competitions – hosted here so you can see the pros in action. The Wellington Country Fair and Horse Trials in August attracts some of the world’s best riders and should not be missed.
