The Waterside Inn, Bray

The Roux’s Berkshire institution needs no introduction. Three Michelin stars for 36 years, this beautiful riverside restaurant with rooms is a gastronomic great.

Does it need any introduction? For truly special fine dining, The Waterside Inn is justly famous, and one of the most iconic gastro treats in Berkshire, having held onto its three Michelin Star status for an epic 36 years.

A bucket list foodie destination, the Roux’s fine dining restaurant is French and very very fancy. Positioned in one of the prettiest riverside spots in the village of Bray, The Waterside Inn is one of only five three-star restaurants in the UK – and one of them is practically next door (Heston’s Fat Duck).

Chef Patron Alain Roux has an army of 24 chefs in his kitchen lead by Belgian head chef Fabrice Uhryn (above) who has worked in the Waterside kitchen for 18 years. You can go on a deep dive into the seven-course tasting menu (£172 per head), hit the a la carte with gay abandon.

For wine lovers, The Waterside’s cellar is home to around 1,000 different wines – every single one them French. The restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. There are elegant rooms to book as well, so you can settle in for the long haul. Eat, drink and stagger to bed. Gastro heaven.

Dress code is smart casual. Reinforce your credit card – not all the best things in life are free! The venue is also available to hire for parties, weddings and there are rooms if you’re heading for a food coma and need a lie down.
