The Roseate Hotel, Reading
Looking for a boutiquey city escape? Ritzy dining, lavish suites, and an in-house spa when you’re done exploring. It’s tens across the board!
It’s a grade II listed luxury townhouse bursting with all the period drama of a Bridgerton wedding night. Check in to The Roseate in central Reading and be transported to every maximalists dream – there’s bold colours, rich woody tones, elaborate fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, and complementary pattern clashes aplenty. Oh, and you can’t forget the 86,000 glass bead chandelier hanging in the old central lift shaft. It screams homely glamour, and with friendly staff on hand at every corner, it doesn’t take long to feel just that. At home.
On site there’s all the facilities you could need to make a weekend escape of it – a gorgeous boutique spa with top notch treatments, a secret garden, and a gym should you wish to burn off your lip-smacking meal from their The Reading Room restaurant and bar. It comes alive at night and the cocktails (quirkily named after famous literary works) are to die for. On offer is an eclectic mix of dining concepts. If you’re going all out, you could opt for the seven course taster menu, serving up moreish tandoori spied monkfish and rabbit and chicken roulade, or on the main menu find black truffle linguini and Orkney scallops. All seasonal and locally sourced fine dining goodness. Yum. Their iconic afternoon teas are not to be missed either, served seven days a week with a vegan menu too.
Additionally, it’s the perfect spot for a wedding and they are able to accommodate 2 to 52 guests for civil ceremonies plus partnerships, plus there’s space in their 55 luxury, and bespoke designed rooms and suites for weary guests to lay the head once the party ends. There’s interconnecting rooms for families too.
If you’re coming from out of town, you’ll find the hotel a mere five minute stroll from the train station (which is less than 30 minutes outside London) so you won’t have to haul that luggage far. And when you finally manage to peel yourself away from the comfort of room or suite, you’ll find the best local sites right on your doorstep. It’s next-door to the dramatic remains of the Abbey Ruins, plus all the shopping you could ever dream of is a stones throw away. It’s ideally situated near the Ascot Racecourse and the venue of Reading Festival too. It’s an enviable location, many other Reading hotels struggle to compete with. Basically, you’ll never want to check out. Rooms start at £108 a night.
