The Old Boot Inn, Stanford Dingley
An 18th century country pub in a pretty Berkshire village. Expect superb food, a large garden, and a friendly vibe – the perfect spot for a post-walk pint.
The Old Boot Inn in Stanford Dingley – between Reading and Newbury – is a much-cherished pub with the rustic vibe this 18th century inn deserves. Think Windsor chairs, muted wall colours, mixy-matchy furniture, roaring fire, and a large, dog-friendly garden to enjoy drinkies with friends and family.
Taken over by landlord Michael this year, he brings with him a wealth of culinary experience, breathing new life into the place with the aim of ensuring the pub’s charm is preserved while introducing a modern, healthy take on fresh outdoor dining. The result is spectacular, with the installation of three stunning heated teepees – a gorgeous al fresco spot in summer, turned alpine wonderland come winter.
Over the colder months, the tepees are available for Christmas parties, private hire and events, but in the Spring, they will re-open for general dining, serving up their TOBI’s Secret Garden dining concept of a fresh, seasonal, lo-carb menu of healthy bites.
The hospitality is warm and it’s a strongly ‘local’ pub in the best sense of the word, where you can just pop in for a drink but also eat well if you’re inclined. On the seasonally changing menu, you’ll find humble British pub classics with a few special surprises, plus an excellent roast on a Sunday.
The Old Boot’s garden is a massive draw with a kids play area to give frazzled parents some much needed R&R. In the winter, settle in front of one of the roaring fires, grab a glass of wine, and get your country cosy on.
