Having a baby or know someone who is? When kitting out the nursery it’s almost impossible to find gear that fits functional and fabulous. Options usually flip flop between boring, twee or wall to wall Disney. Design mavens and the style savvy are left with their heads in their hands.

But not anymore. Mum of three, Jeanie Bird created The Gilded Bird because she couldn’t find a quality changing mat she wanted. Just because it’s a baby essential doesn’t mean it has to look like one. Rather than ‘making do’, Jeanie set to work designing and manufacturing her own. You might as well have something easy on the eye while you’re dealing with an explosive nappy.

The result was a stylish, luxury anti-roll changing mat, inspired by the Berkshire countryside, but Jeanie didn’t stop there. She now has a selection of GOTS certified organic cotton baby and toddler bedding, splash mats and five, yes five different types of changing mats, with blankets, curtains and ‘next-to-me’ crib covers in production. The Gilded Bird products all feature unique and original designs painted by a talented watercolour artist and the quality of these products really does have to be seen to be believed.
