Head to the sleepy village of Swallowfield and find The George & Dragon. It’s a pub renowned for its hearty grub, wicked atmosphere, and of course, great lineup of beers. But for a pub owned by award-winning brewery Siren Craft Brew, you’d expect nothing less.

Tradition is at the heart of things here. Find relaxed, cosy vibes with open fires, original brickwork, and exposed beams in a grade II listed building that dates back to the 17th century. There’s a real sense of community, but for those coming from further afield, it’s the perfect pitstop after a stomp around the surrounding countryside. It’s in easy reach of Reading and the nearby Wellington Country Park too.

On the seasonal menus it’s a drool-fest of delicious and warming British food. Braised steak pie with creamy mash, battered haddock and chips, and roasted chicken supreme for mains, plus sticky toffee pud, apple crumble, and double chocolate brownie to tempt you into the sweet side. There’s a weekly specials board, decent kids menu, and top tier roasts on Sundays. The pub prides itself on supporting local and sourcing ingredients from nearby producers too.

Wash it all down with their locally brewed beers (you won’t get it much fresher), plus a fabulous wine list and tempting selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.
