FARE Eatery, Wokingham

The culinary stars have aligned in the moreish form of swanky FARE Eatery – Wokingham’s coolest new spot for small and big plate grazing.

When FARE Eatery swung open its doors in June 2024, the fervent buzz of anticipation was real. And for good reason. The eatery, located in the majestic Grade II listed Town Hall building, is the brainchild of former Fat Duck director, Nigel Sutcliffe, and ex-Hand & Flowers chef, Josh Wilde who together work to serve seasonal, contemporary cuisine featuring a range of small to large plates.

On the menu, find a tempting offering of grub which gives you flexibility to eat your way. Go down the traditional route and opt for the regular three course affair. Or, scoff your way through a handful of plates for the whole table. It’s relaxed dining at its finest with something for everyone, and price tags to suit all. Think Barbequed Beetroot, Cantaloupe, Feta and Hazelnuts from the larder, Grilled Scallops, Caper and ‘Chorizo’ Mayonnaise, and Stokes Marsh Farm Ribeye of Beef and Shin Croquette.

They serve a wicked breakfast on weekends, 9am – 11am, plus their take on Sunday roasts are epic. There’s a decent vegan offering, and a small but perfectly formed kids menu too, created to please even the pickiest of eaters.

FARE is now Wokingham’s newest and swaggiest spot to convene, and inside the décor is deliciously cool. Think pistachio hues, red velvet banquette seating, and quirky wall art. Venture down into the wacky cells (yep, two actual former prison cells dating back to the 1890s), now used to hold guests hostage for private dining, parties, celebrations, and meetings. Each cell is able to fit up to six people at a time.

On scorching days though, you’ll want to kick back on the beautiful outdoor terrace complete with vintage-style fringed umbrellas. It’s best enjoyed with a chilled glass of rosé from their extensive, sustainable menu of over 100 wines (many of them organic and biodynamic) or a bespoke cocktail if you ask us. Your favourite tipple not on the list? Just ask the talented bartender and they’ll try their best to whip it up for you.
