Bucklebury Farm & Deer Safari Park

Sack the digital nanny and let the kids run wild. Bucklebury Farm is the perfect playground for your mini beasts to let off steam.

Need to step away from screens and go in search of fresh air and wholesome fun? Head to Bucklebury Farm. This Muddy award-winning family attraction is brilliant for younger children who can be free range and close to animals in a safe environment.

You’ll find this stunning 70-acre working farm in the pretty village of Bucklebury, nestled in the beautiful Pang valley in West Berkshire. What can you expect? Well, clue’s in the name – animals. And there are plenty to feed, pet and gawp – four breeds of deer, a small herd of rare breed Berkshire Pigs, Pygmy and Anglo-Nubian goats, Alpacas, Donkeys, Shetland Ponies, Lambs and Chickens. It’s a Generation Game of livestock and there are new arrivals to coo over all the time. When it comes to cuteness, to put it simply, it’s off the scale.

The tractor deer safari is always a highlight as you get to see these majestic creatures up close and personal. There are four breeds here – Red deer, Farrow, Sika and Axis. If your kids have more energy than the Duracell bunny, there’s also plenty to tire them out – a woodland adventure playground, an all new (and air conditioned) indoor play barn, zip wire, farm activities, obstacle courses and go karts.

Refuelling is essential – and the café is excellent. Very much in line with The Good Life vibes here, all the food is freshly prepared using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. The coffee is superb and the food is simple but delicious. There are also lots of picnic tables if you’re bringing your own spread.

And if you want to stay longer, hire out one of their five rustic glamping tents (best suited for 2 adults and up to 4 children) hidden away in the woods and overlooking the deer fields. You’ll re-connect with nature and awake to birdsong with no wifi or electricity. It’s a proper digital detox where the kids can build dens and spot wildlife before roasting marshmallows under the stars.

What’s the damage? A family ticket (two adults and two children) is £45 off-peak, Adults £14.45; 2-5 years £9.50; 5+ £12.50; under 2s free, Disabled and their carers, £14.95. Season tickets are also available.

We’re big fans. Let your kids run wild, get dirty, eat loads and have fun.
