<p>Berkshire is long overdue for a cool new yoga den, so when <a href="https://canopyyoga.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Canopy</a> opened in October 2024 on the grounds of chic <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/travel/uk/hotel-and-inns/review-easthampstead-park-wokingham/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Easthampstead Park</a>, you can only imagine the buzz. Nestled within the hotel&#8217;s onsite East Park Gym, open to guests and the wider public, the wellness space offers a number of timetabled classes including yoga, pilates, core, and soundbaths. No one trick pony on the yoga front here. Choose from Vinyasa, Flow &amp; Restore, Yin, and Restorative Yoga &#8211; each offering varying levels of pace, poses, and breathwork. </p>



<p>The yoga studio is well positioned in striking distance of Wokingham, Bracknell, and Crowthorne, plus it&#8217;s only a 20 minute drive from Ascot too. One thing&#8217;s for sure though: the instructors here really know their stuff. There&#8217;s decades of experience between them, each able to offer expert guidance, support, and valuable advice as you embark on a journey to find your inner zen. The Canopy can also be rented out as a corporate space to host yoga retreats. Plus, keep your eyes peeled. There&#8217;s plans under way for the venue to run some in-house ones too. </p>



<p>As for the regular classes, expect a variety of timeslots to suit your lifestyle, run across six days a week. They are suitable for those 16+, no matter your existing ability. Still not convinced? Try your first class absolutely free. All you&#8217;ll need to do is book in for an induction meeting where you&#8217;ll be given a tour of the place, then, get stuck in!</p>

<p>Weave your way to the area directly behind the main gym and prepare to be wowed. The space is utterly gorgeous, comprised of a hugeeee tent like canopy with high sweeping ceilings that give an inviting sense of space. Think one of those fancy glamping tents but on steroids. Uber plush and very instagrammable, the neutral tones are calming, with exposed brick, and a transparent back panel which overlooks verdant outdoor greenery and woodlands. It&#8217;s like a pintsized pocket of Eden, and honestly, I can&#8217;t think of a better place to spend an hour fumbling my way into the downward facing dog.</p>



<p>All attendees are free to help themselves to any of the top spec equipment they need including mats, blankets, blocks, and pillows. You can tell it&#8217;s brand spanking new and the quality bar is high &#8211; a huge bonus if you&#8217;re looking to dip your toe into the world of yoga and haven&#8217;t yet splashed out on your own gear. It is worth noting, there aren&#8217;t any mirrors in the canopy in case you like to see yourself smashing out the poses in the right position. Or in my case, toppling over like you&#8217;ve had one too many G&amp;Ts.</p>

<p>Another thing I absolutely love is the underfloor heating. On a nippy winter&#8217;s day, it literally made me want to curl up in a ball and snooze for the foreseeable. Not today though. There&#8217;s calories to burn and buns of steel to gain. Let&#8217;s get this bread.</p>

<p>Yoga bunny, I am not. In fact, with a whopping two classes under my belt, yeah, definitely not. But I was more than willing to give it my best shot. Instructor Abi would be taking the class today, and having completed over 200 hours of Vinyasa Yoga training, I knew I&#8217;d be in safe hands. I&#8217;d never done this kind of yoga before &#8211; a faster pace class that focuses on movement and breath with different variations available to make things harder or easier for yourself. Now, I&#8217;m sure you don&#8217;t need me banging on about the health benefits of yoga (hello, ripped bod), but to hammer it home, Vinyasa helps improve cardio fitness, increase mobility, and enhance core stability just to name a few.</p>



<p>Kick starting the class, we began by gently waking up the body with a meditative series of exercises. Closing my eyes, I was told to bring awareness to various areas which helped me get in that tranquil mind space. With less than 10 of us in the class, there was plenty of room to stretch (and wobble), and it felt like a genuinely safe space. All my fellow participants were so lovely and welcoming &#8211; helping me get my equipment sorted at the start. Despite my lack of experience, there was no judgement, and it was clear there was a range of abilities taking part as well.</p>

<p>For the rest of the one hour class, we followed a flowing sequence of movements. Unlike your bog standard yoga, there was no holding poses for more than perhaps five breaths, so there was a real pace to it. Abi talked us through and demonstrated all the moves simply, although trying to watch and do at the same time proved a challenge of its own. At one point she came over to correct my hand posture which was really appreciated. </p>



<p>To my suprise, I found myself breaking into more of a sweat than I thought I would. It was definitely more hardcore than I&#8217;d experienced before and I could see the long term benefits of doing the class regularly. Finally, after whipping through moves like the scorpion and pigeon, it was time to switch off completely. To finish off, we got to enjoy a lovely (and much needed) lie down to find a pocket of calm before going back to our busy days. I loved this part, and listening to the singsong soundtrack of birds tweeting outside was just bliss. A perfect ending to a fab class.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-verdict">THE VERDICT</h2>



<p>Totally revitalising and a workout that actually gets the heart pumping! The next day, I could certainly tell I&#8217;d engaged some muscles that had been out of action for a while. The setting was just stunning, and it felt like such a needed time out of the day to really connect with my inner self and slooooow things down. Abi was super lovely which really helped. I do think the pace of the class was perhaps a little bit too fast for me as someone who&#8217;s practically a newbie on the yoga circuit. Often, by the time I&#8217;d got in position, it was on to the next one. However, as they say, practice makes perfect, and after a few classes I&#8217;d no doubt get the hang of things.</p>

<p>Did someone say brunch? Hot foot it next door and find a sinky seat in the <a href="https://www.eastpark.co.uk/dining/bar" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Easthampstead Park Bar</a>. It&#8217;s well-worth sticking around after the class for a coffee and a natter. And if you&#8217;re feeling particularly naughty, it would be practically a sin not to grab a spot of lunch or brunch. On the menu is a range of delicious bites including doorstop sandwiches, salads, mezze platters, burgers, and wings. Go on, you deserve it.</p>
