<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but with spring (kind of?) stepping into the spotlight, I&#8217;m fully ready for a wardrobe refresh. Sitting down for a colour analysis with image consultant Lucy from <a href="https://www.lulu-boutique.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lulu Boutique</a> in Wokingham, quite frankly then, couldn&#8217;t have come at a better time. Not a scooby what I&#8217;m talking about? Well, you&#8217;ve probably seen it on Instagram. You know, the videos where swatches of fabrics are held up against people to determine their strongest colour matches. If like me you&#8217;ve ever wanted to give it a whirl, Lucy is your girl.</p>

<p>Honestly, I didn&#8217;t know what to expect. Like lots of people, I&#8217;d seen colour analysis on Instagram, absolutely butchered correctly guessing someone&#8217;s season, and then thought, &#8216;I&#8217;d love to get that done at some point&#8217; before swiping on to the next thing. So, when the chance came to try it for myself at Lulu Boutique, I was preeeetty pumped to say the least. However, as someone who really loves bold colour in their wardrobe, I&#8217;d be lying if I said a part of me wasn&#8217;t nervous it would give me a micro identity crisis and make me question my entire wardrobe. Spoiler alert: it didn&#8217;t.  </p>



<p>Before the session, I followed Lucy&#8217;s no makeup, low collar instructions and played it safe in a neutral top, terrified I’d turn up wearing a faux pas shade that would make me look like I’d just crawled out of a skip. Turns out, I needn&#8217;t have worried. From the moment I arrived, the lovely Lucy made me feel extremely welcome. And no, she&#8217;s anything but the fashion police. In fact, she’s more like a colour-obsessed fairy godmother who recognises that you can still wear any hue you love, but it’s just about how you wear it. She isn&#8217;t going to banish you from ever wearing navy again, though she might suggest you move it slightly further away from your face or as an accent shade.</p>

<p>The session kicked off with a fascinating deep dive into colour theory &#8211; the psychology behind why some shades make us look catwalk ready and others like we need to hibernate for six months. Then, Lucy began the process of determining drapes to see how different hues interacted with my skin, lips, eyes, and hair. Very quickly it became blindingly obvious which did and did not fly. White was quickly sidelined, followed by black and grey. Thank god &#8211; I own practically nothing in those colours. Having very warm undertones meant the sugary pastels were also swiftly booted out the door &#8211; not a moment too soon, frankly. They&#8217;ve never suited me.</p>



<p>And with that, my season was finally revealed as, drumroll please, autumn! FYI: your season doesn&#8217;t change depending on if you have a tan &#8211; no matter how much of the fake stuff you slather on your sun-starved body. With that nailed down, next began the process of discovering my sub and sister seasons. Using over 40 different swatches, Lucy placed colours of varying shades within my season against my skin, ticking off my very best matches in a swatch book that I could take home after my session. Turns out, I was firmly a warm autumn, my sister season being warm spring. Keeping up? Lucy describes a sister season as like nicking something from your sibling&#8217;s wardrobe. It might look good, but it won&#8217;t look anywhere near as fire as your own. </p>

<p>During the session, Lucy also spent time picking out makeup products and shades that suited me best from her lineup of premium brands like Charlotte Tilbury and MAC. We applied shades tailored specifically to my palette to see how the right tones enhance my complexion. I even tried a lick of brown-plum mascara for the first time &#8211; a total curveball that I ended up loving. Lucy also helps guide you on how to best place and apply your makeup which is a real added bonus for those less confident in that department.</p>



<p>With that, our session came to an end. But it&#8217;s not over the second you slip out the door. Aftercare is huge here, and Lucy is all too happy to provide ongoing support through her dedicated Facebook page for clients where she organises exclusive events, shopping days, and uploads a monthly curated roundup of looks for each season. Splashing out on a new wardrobe has never been so dangerously easy. You&#8217;ll also leave with a lovely goodie bag including a L&#8217;Occitane hand cream, mini MAC lipstick, Bakery chocolate bar, and of course, your personalised swatch of over 30 colours. It&#8217;s all very luxurious and I couldn&#8217;t help feel I&#8217;d been truly spoilt.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-verdict">THE VERDICT</h2>

<p>It&#8217;s impossible not to leave Lucy&#8217;s kaleidoscope room of colour in a happy mood. The session was so much fun. At the end of the day, colour analysis is all about gaining confidence, not just in your wardrobe, but yourself. Lucy gave me absolutely all of that and more. So, a blinding success? You could definitely call it that. From the get-go I really trusted Lucy’s opinion, which made the whole experience feel easy and fun. It was incredibly relaxed, there was zero judgement, and it felt like hanging out with a friend. While pastels doing nothing for me wasn&#8217;t a shocker, some things definitely were (please forgive me navy), so there is definitely a lot to learn by having a colour analysis, even if you&#8217;re someone that&#8217;s fairly confident in their palette choices. </p>



<p>My swatch book is now firmly glued to me and will be coming on every shopping trip from here on out. Already I can see just how well certain colours work for my skin, and it&#8217;s making shopping incredibly easy. The bank account, meanwhile, is not looking so healthy. I’ve already ordered a few new bits online, and for once, I’m not questioning a single one. Who is she? Consider me a woman converted.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-cost">THE COST</h2>



<p>The private two-hour Signature Colour Analysis session costs £275. It&#8217;s an investment for sure, but what Lucy offers here is a very premium experience. And at the end of the day, can you really put a price on feeling like a colour confident superwoman? Me thinks not. </p>
