It’s a wrap
Discovered The Corner Shop in Woolhampton yet? It’s a treasure trove of great gifts. I defy you not to buy.
I do love a cushion. Just ask Mr Muddy, who thinks my passion is an illness. But who can possibly resist these huge Anna Cox cushions? Big (60cm square, don’t you know), beautiful and the perfect square to sink into. You can find these and many other gorgeous gifts, homewares, toys and things you never thought you needed but really really do at The Corner Shop in Woolhampton.
Where? I hear you cry. You mean you haven’t been yet? Oh but you must. Head down the A4 Bath Road and you’ll find this Grade II listed Tudor Cottage in the small village of Woolhampton, opposite The Angel pub. You can’t miss it. Pretty exterior, stylish shop window and gets even better on the inside. Plus it was a Muddy Awards 2017 Finalist, so you know you’re onto a good thing.

The Corner Shop now stock the big, bright Anna Cox cushions, £65
Owned by the lovely Nina Peddie and Claire Dibble, The Corner Shop opened its doors in 2014 offering stylish, unusual gifts for all ages. Can it really be possible to cover so much ground? Hell yes. This is place is a treasure trove of cool, quirky, individual bits and bobs – it’s a million miles away from your bog standard, mass produced high street offering. Plus – and this is the thing I love the most – you can find something really special, dare I say it, PERFECT regardless of budget.
Cool gadgets for teenagers, the most tactile handmade ceramics, lovely kids pressies, funky tools for gardeners. You name it, you’ll find it here. The difficulty will be knowing when to stop. Pop in for a girlfriend’s birthday pressie and you end up leaving with a necklace, beach cover up, bag and a jar of matches for yourself. But then I have about as much restraint as a Labrador in a butcher’s shop.
So what can you find, shall we take a bit of tour…
If you’re a magpie, check out the jewellery. I love these tubes of necklaces and earrings. I actually bought a simple gold hoop necklace. I loved the tube packaging and at £22.99 for my necklace I thought it was really good value. I wear it with everything and get lots of comments. Again there are more expensive options with semi-precious stones and more grown up designs, but if it’s fun and affordable you’re after, these little vials are fab..

Looking foxy today. Felt stuffed head, £65
Trying to steer clear of the Paw Patrol vomiting decor all over your kids bedrooms? These brilliant felt animal heads should keep the little home wreckers from complaining. Mr Fox is so fantastic I might even find space in the hallway. There are lots to choose from a crowned lion, swan, pheasant and a unicorn could all grace your walls. Or go for the whole lot and create a cuddly shooting gallery.
There’s not an explosion of plastic toys here either. The range available is the sort of things you see in the homes of glamorous people with kids’ bedrooms and playrooms that make your ovaries ache. Got older kids? Oh they’re catered for too. Funky charge cords, charging hub, edgy stationary and book and picture frames.
The homeware is lush. Just add Aperol Spritz and I’m in al fresco dining heaven. I mean check out this pastel pretty tableware. Organic, scalloped edging, come to mama.Oh and the candles, they come in a range of stunning colours, they have a 25-hour burn and don’t drip. The number of table clothes ruined from dripping candles.
This is but a drop in the ocean. The Corner Shop does a lovely line in cosy cashmere, boho beach cover ups, neon garden tools, books, scarves… I could go on but it might sound like I’m a contestant on The Generation Game.
Did I leave without buying something? Did I heck. An artisan bowl for a friend’s birthday and a feather keyring, £14.95, for me. If I ask one more time where my car keys are it’s D.I.V.O.R.C.E. Mr Muddy is now trying to find a way of attaching the feather duster to my phone. Harsh but fair.
The Corner Shop doesn’t sell online, but I can’t think of a better reason to jump in the car and pay them a visit. There’s some lovely pubs and great walks nearby too. You find lots of information and inspiration on their website thecornershopwoolhampton.com, FB and Insta.
