Kenneth Grahame is a certified legend around these parts, having lived in the Berkshire area at various points in his life. In fact, it was while residing in Cookham Dean as a child that he found inspiration for his beloved masterpiece, The Wind in the Willows &#8211; making childhoods magic for generations to come.

Sooo many character features. This stained glass window in the dining room depicts a cockerel entitled &#8216;vigilante&#8217; and the other with a man with a cudgel entitled &#8216;defend&#8217;.

Off to the clink you go! Head outside and you&#8217;ll stumble across the old village prison cell &#8211; favourite haunt of the local drunks who would be incarcerated for the night in case they got out of order. We&#8217;ve all been there. The next morning, the magistrate would let them out for a payment of a farthing.

Just in front of the lock up is a mosaic laid into the path depicting Wind in the Willow&#8217;s very own Mr Toad holding the keys. How cool is that! Seperate from the main house, The Bothy is an outside building currently used as a workshop with an attached greenhouse.
