<p>Malverleys is bang up to date when it comes to representing the modish farm shop of today. Think Instagrammable with open displays lining oak benches which contain sustainably grown cauliflower, artichokes, and freshly baked loaves to name a few. Their produce is homegrown on site, taken from their market garden, and they sell a range of carefully sourced ingredients like organic meat, cheese, and pasta too. It&#8217;s farmhouse-core done right, nestled at the edge of the picturesque Wessex Downs.</p>

<p>Proudly rooted in tradition, the original village shop dates back to the Victorian era where for forty years it was the main supply of groceries, haberdashery and more for locals. Now, not only is Goswell &amp; Bird&#8217;s a community hub for coffee and cake meets, but inside you&#8217;ll find everything from everyday essentials to premium seasonal produce. Grab a pint of milk (old school style with a creamy top), fresh bread, fruit and veg. There&#8217;s an incredible selection of cheeses and cured meats from artisan producers, plus local beers, wines and gins. It’s not cheap, so perhaps not your weekly shop haunt. But for those special treats, this is the culinary equivalent of&nbsp;<em>Top of The Pops</em>.</p>

There’s an in-house butcher and deli, a fresh produce section for all your fruit and veg, and a wide range of wines where local makers often drop by to showcase their products. They are big on putting local producers on the map &#8211; something we can get behind. And should you be looking for that little extra personal touch on your grocery stock-up, the all-knowing shop team can organise a hamper, wine or bespoke food order too.</p>

<p>So good Old McDonald would be green with envy. The farm shop and butchers at Lockey Farm is a gold mine for your five a day &#8211; sourced from local green grocers. Grab your meat, eggs, bakery goods, and alcoholic drinkies too. But the deli counter is where they really shine. From your award-winning to your left field choices, the cheese is top notch &#8211; Barkham Blue, Wigmore, Waterloo, Spenwood, Maida Vale and the new Heckfield is just scratching the surface. They stock their own in-house cooked hams and carry proper Cornish Pasties, sausage rolls, pork pies and homemade scotch eggs too. Yum.</p>

<p>Vicars Game has been the Godfather of meat supply for over 100 years &#8211; supplying farm shops, restaurants, and butchers with the highest quality goods. So when it comes to their very own farm shop, you know it&#8217;s going to be pretty special. Expect all your usual suspects, but it&#8217;s hardened carnivores who will feel like they&#8217;ve hit the jackpot. Wild local game and fresh venison is their speciality, and all their sausages (they produce over 50 different flavours) are made and hand-linked on site. They cure their own bacon, chicken and duck breasts in their own smoke house too.</p>

It ticks the low food miles box, but also the highest quality animal welfare too with some of the produce on sale coming from Wellington Estate itself – The&nbsp;Wellington Hereford Beef is naturally fattened on the water meadows surrounding the Farm Shop. You can pick up loose fruit and veg, local bread and cakes, beers, ciders and wines, and store cupboard staples. Don&#8217;t forget to grab some mouth-wateringly good Berkshire Trout there too &#8211; reared near Hungerford on the flowing waters of the river Dun.</p>

<p>Sandwiched on over 600 acres of rural bliss you&#8217;ll find Fernygrove Farm &#8211; a family operation where rare breed pigs and sheep run the show. They live happy lives freely roaming the expansive land before ending up in the on-site farm shop and butchers run by passionate husband and wife team James and Charlotte Quinn. If it&#8217;s not the best, you won&#8217;t find it here. The meat (pork, beef, chicken and lots of game) is quality, as is the cheese, fruit, veg, and breads.</p>

<p>Saddleback Farm Shop partnered with Honesty food group back in 2012 and since then has offered good quality, locally produced goods; championing small independent producers and really putting its punters back in touch with where food comes from and how it is produced. It was recently announced the partnership will be ending this month, but all is not lost. Although nothing&#8217;s set in stone, word is the farm shop could be returning back to its roots as an indie store.
