It&#8217;s a buzzy village that dates back to Anglo Saxon times and has independent shops aplenty, excellent schools, and you&#8217;re surrounded by five star facilities. Be warned though &#8211; the property price tags can be eye-watering.</p>

Start with the fine dining sort. <a href="https://bluebells-restaurant.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bluebells Restaurant</a> is made for special occasions and the décor is dreeeeamy. <a href="https://www.dorchestercollection.com/en/ascot/coworth-park/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Coworth Park</a>&#8216;s one Michelin star Woven by Adam Smith is one of the best restaurants in the UK (if not the world) and has just been awarded a rare 5 AA rosettes. For gastropub grazing try <a href="https://thedukesunninghill.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Duke</a> or the more classic <a href="https://www.dogandpartridgesunninghill.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Dog &amp; Partridge</a>. <a href="https://www.laclochepub.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Carpenter&#8217;s Arms</a> offers fab French fare, and <a href="https://muddystilettos.co.uk/travel/uk/hotels-inns/review-royal-berkshire-hotel-ascot-berkshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">FORK at Royal Berkshire</a> is excellent with a menu of all-day classics. The traditional Italian food at <a href="https://la-sorrentina.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">La Sorrentina</a> is pretty hard to beat.</p>



<p>Get your coffee fix at one of three gorgeous independents including <a href="https://www.thecourtyardsunninghill.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Courtyard</a>. Then there&#8217;s <a href="https://hellofego.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fego</a> in Sunningdale and Ascot, or <a href="https://elianesmiles.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Eliane</a> for your proper healthy nosh. Psst, the new <a href="https://www.instagram.com/fegobakehouse/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fego Bakehouse</a> literally just opened in nearby Ascot and it looks eye-wateringly good. Heading towards Windsor way, <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/the-loch-and-the-tyne-old-windsor/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Loch and The Tyne</a> by Adam Handling is exceptional, we love the tapas at <a href="https://www.onriver.co.uk/?gad_source=1&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjw74e1BhBnEiwAbqOAjFE9XYmfkuydOTtCb2zZwOEZqTcH8xvkJ7U4F16GYqvJcjJN2dIZLRoC7_UQAvD_BwE" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Plate at No.6</a>, and <a href="https://www.upstairswindsor.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Upstairs Windsor</a>, <a href="https://www.thecobbleswindsor.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Cobbles</a>, and <a href="https://incognitobars.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Incognito</a> make for the ultimate cocktail crawl.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-shop">SHOP</h2>



<p>A homage to shopping local. There&#8217;s a superb butchers, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/simmons.of.sunninghill/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Simmons of Sunninghill</a>. You&#8217;ll also find an ironmongers, wine shop, a very good florist and jewellers, plus <a href="https://thecirclegallery.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Circle Gallery</a> sells some very cool artwork to fill your blank walls. No venturing far to find your nearest Waitrose either. </p>



<p>If you&#8217;re after timeless furniture and home accessories, there&#8217;s an excellent <a href="https://www.oka.com/uk/stores/ascot-berkshire" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OKA</a> – catnip for the interior obsessed. You can also get your fashion fix at <a href="https://thestylestory.net/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Style Story</a>, Green&#8217;s for designer mens gear, and a premium second-hand store, <a href="https://www.instyleascot.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">In Style</a>, opened in South Ascot earlier this year. For scrummy kids clothes, try Petit Bon Bon in Sunningdale.</p>

In Windsor, <a href="https://www.cecilywindsor.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cecily Spa</a> is just gorgeous, and a day amongst the jets isn&#8217;t far away at <a href="https://www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/berystede/spa-leisure" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Berystede Hotel &amp; Spa</a>. <a href="https://figolihair.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Figoli</a> is a Muddy Award-winning hair salon that&#8217;s seriously beautiful, as is <a href="https://www.instagram.com/graceameliastudios/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Grace Amelia Studios</a> down the road in Bracknell. For aesthetics, look no further than Dr Ash Soni – one of the best aesthetics doctors in the UK – <a href="https://www.thesoniclinic.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Soni Clinic</a> is at the top of the high street for anti-ageing injectables, skin boosters, and surgical procedures.</p>



<p>Zip into Eton 10 miles down the road for pretty much the best boutique fitness studio around. <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/lifestyle-2/wellbeing-lifestyle-2/review-personal-training-class-at-vi-training-studio-eton/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vi</a> offers small group personal training sessions that are just excellent. In the village itself, you&#8217;ll also find a dentist, GP surgery, chiropractor, opticians, vets, and pharmacy. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>There is always something happening in Sunninghill. This year there was a big D-Day Party in the Park, family theatre performances, and the annual Sunninghill Street Fayre is legendary. For something a bit more bonkers, don&#8217;t miss the annual charity wheelbarrow race. Local residents can often get their paws on free Royal Ascot tickets too.</p>

<p>You don&#8217;t have to love horses but it helps. <a href="https://www.ascot.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ascot Racecourse</a> is the biggy for race days (hello Royal Ascot), family fireworks events, art fairs, live music, and outdoor cinema. Polo is also a hot watch with a plethora of clubs in the area, and there are many golf courses (<a href="https://www.wentworthclub.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wentworth</a> is just down the road). For outdoorsy family fun, Swinley Forest&#8217;s bike trails and <a href="https://goape.co.uk/locations/bracknell" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Go Ape</a> tree climbing are favourites. In the other direction is <a href="https://www.rct.uk/visit/windsor-castle" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Windsor Castle</a>, and Windsor Great Park never gets old. Of course there&#8217;s <a href="https://www.legoland.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">LEGOLAND</a> for miniature adrenaline junkies which features a new adventure golf course too.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE </h2>



<p>For stage and screen, culture vultures will love <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/south-hill-park-bracknell/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">South Hill Park</a> in Bracknell, plus&nbsp;<a href="https://oldcourt.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Old Court</a>&nbsp;and <a href="https://theatreroyalwindsor.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Theatre Royal Windsor</a> in Windsor. <a href="https://www.windsorgreatpark.co.uk/en/news-and-events/events" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Windsor Great Park Illuminated</a>&nbsp;will return this Christmas, a magical twinkle fest, and there&#8217;s the annual <a href="https://www.windsorgreatpark.co.uk/all-events/art-in-the-garden/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Art in the Garden</a> to enjoy. The <a href="https://www.windsorfringe.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Windsor Fringe</a> takes place every Autumn which is always a crack.</p>

<p>Hold onto your Royal Ascot hats and pray for a big win because this is a seriously spenny area to live. The average house prices flirt around £875,133, but detached properties hit an eye-watering £1,233,667 and Heathfield Avenue has one of the most expensive roads in the south with homes going for £3m+. </p>

<p><a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/the-marist-school-early-years-and-prep-sunninghill-berkshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Marist Nursery</a> takes children from age two and is open 48 weeks of the year, with an abundance of top notch facilities, forest school and swimming lessons. There&#8217;s also the outstanding <a href="http://dreamcatchersdaynursery.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dreamcatcher Day Nursery</a> in Sunningdale where kids can take part in forest school, ballet, french, rugby, football, and drama. The <a href="https://www.oldschooldaynursery.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Old School Day Nursery</a> is another outstanding option a few miles down the road in Winkfield Row.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p>There&#8217;s a couple of outstanding state options: <a href="https://www.stfrancisprimary.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Francis Catholic Primary School</a>, <a href="https://www.ascotheathprimary.school/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ascot Heath Primary School</a> and <a href="https://www.chartersschool.org.uk/">Charters Schoo</a>l for seniors. Brainiacs can all sit the 11+ for <a href="https://www.rgshw.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Royal Grammar School</a>, Guildford. Independent schools are really popular, with their exceptional facilities, academic record and pastoral care. </p>



<p>Quite a lot of single sex options here: <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/the-marist-schools-ascot/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Marist</a> is an impressive all-through girls school. There&#8217;s also <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/heathfield-school-ascot-berkshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Heathfield School</a>, <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/st-georges-ascot-berkshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St George&#8217;s Ascot</a> and <a href="https://www.st-marys-ascot.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Mary&#8217;s Ascot</a>. For boys, <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/review-sunningdale-school-ascot-berkshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sunningdale School</a> is a traditional &#8216;muddy knees&#8217; country prep and often the goal is Eton College for seniors. If you&#8217;re after co-ed, all-through <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/lvs-ascot/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">LVS Ascot</a> could be right up your street. Of course when it comes to co-ed prep all eyes are on <a href="https://www.lambrookschool.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lambrook</a> just four miles down the road &#8211; the chosen one for the Prince and Princess of Wales&#8217;s three children. Lastly, <a href="https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/luckley-house-school-wokingham-berkshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Luckley House</a> is a popular co-ed senior school in nearby Wokingham.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>It claims a slice of Beatles history with both John Lennon and Ringo Starr calling Sunninghill home. John Lennon and Yoko Ono lived at Tittenhurst Park from 1969-71, Ringo owned it in the 80s. Judas Priest&#8217;s album <em>British Steel</em> was also recorded there. Broadcaster Chris Evans also lived in Sunninghill but converted his family home into posh flats and skipped off to Marlow.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>Jetsetters will love that Heathrow airport is just 10 miles away. The M4 and M3 are nearby and if you prefer a ticket to ride, your nearest train stations are Ascot or Sunningdale and will get you into London Waterloo in about an hour. Season tickets from £4,544.</p>
