Local business shout outs

Another week, another brilliant bunch of Berkshire businesses to support. Here's how you can help.

Despite COVID-19 is disrupting all of our lives, many of our brilliant local businesses are soldiering on, but they need our help. Loads of Berkshire businesses are offering new services and innovative new ways to navigate this strange time and I’m continuing to shout out as much as possible because, well, every little helps right?

Let me know in the comments below if I’ve missed anyone off the list.

Shout out road signs

OK, Here we go…

Wellington Country Park is taking its role to prop up frazzled parents seriously – by creating a kids hub and setting weekly challenges for you to complete at home. Each week a new challenge is set and you can post your mad, bad and beautiful creations on their social channels using the hashtag #wellypark.

Wellington Farm Shop has also stepped up and opened a fantastic online shop to click and collect. There are 16 boxes available from essential fresh veg and meat boxes to cheese, deli, brunch and celebration boxes. Plus all the big joints of meat you fancy. The quality is top notch and the food miles are low.

Silliness is now a public service – Operation Lolington Bear is go and the plan is to deliver laughter during lockdown. The good peeps of the Stand And Deliver Comedy Club will be loading their recorded gigs online for you to dive into. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for new material. Dinner and show? Why not.

My husband had a heart attack when he heard 53million pints will be wasted if pubs stay closed, good job we have West Berkshire Brewery bringing pub life to homes in Berkshire. They offering a click and collect service (11am – 4pm, Tuesday-Saturday) on beers, ciders and spirits – including their new range of alcohol-free beers, SOLO.

Been there, got the t-shirt? You can now. Screenprinters Squeegee & Ink is supporting its local network with a cool bit of merch that gives you a t-shirt (£25) to wear during lockdown and the opportunity for you can donate £10 of the sale price to one o your fave Newbury businesses. Everybody wins.

If playing teacher at home is driving you to drink, The Jam Jar Cocktail Club has created something better than paracetamol but not as good as sending the kids back to school. Say hello to The Homeschooling First Aid Box – featuring three cocktails (kit and ingredients included) for you to mix at home. Order by Wednesdays for delivery on Fridays.

Cobbs Farm Shop is still open in Hungerford and Englefield. For those who are more vulnerable, click and collect meat and veg boxes are available to ensure you can get your mitts on quality, fresh produce without putting yourself at risk.

Newly refurbished The Last Crumb in Caversham is now offering burgers and fries, beers and wines via deliveroo. Orders are taken from 5pm, so if you’re local dig in. There’s also an opportunity to run a bar tab for you to cash in when the pub reopens.

Fancy a gin cruise once the dust settles? Erm, no brainer! Mr Hobbs Gin in Henley is offering ‘buy now, use within 12 months’ vouchers, plus booking now will give you a discounted price. The cruise includes a five-course gin tasting menu and beautiful meander down the River Thames.

Marlow-based Cross Stream Distillery is still supplying the goods, offering free delivery of its delicious gin to anywhere in the UK, plus contact free local delivery within a 10-mile radius of Marlow.

Dental emergency? Local doc and dentist Vish Anand (of The Online Dentist) to the rescue with his new online face-to-face dental service. Pre lockdown he ran his clinic Mention ‘Muddy Stilettos’ when booking online to receive 20% off your dental bill.

Newbury-based Michelin starred chef Dominic Robinson has a delicious takeaway menu at The Blackbird in Bagnor. A limited menu is available Tuesday-Saturday, order and collect (12pm-7pm), plus roast dinner and all the trimmings on Sundays (12pm-5pm). It would be rude not to.

The Funkie Cookie Company is offering biscuit decorating kits. Follow her on Instagram her biscuit decorating has a hypnotic calming effect. But if you’re running out of ideas to entertain the kid, her kits – unicorn, dinosaur and ice cream themed – should keep them busy for a bit. Although unlikely they’ll look as beautiful as the pics.
