Wouldn’t you though?

It’s here! The waiting is finally over. Childbirth was less painful (welllll, not really). Yes, it’s true, IKEA Reading has opened its big blue and yellow doors and we are Swedish meatballs, dump-those-those-children-and-run-ball-pits, and flat-pack heaven GOOOOO people!

There was huge excitement this morning for the grand opening at 9.30am at the new site on Pincents Lane, Calcot. In truth, the excitement started long before this morning as some people actually camped out last night in order to be first in the queue! They must really love their meatballs. And it is pretty exciting, being the first IKEA to be built in the UK in seven years – we now have 19 to choose from.

All the usual IKEA stalwarts are in place including over 50 inspirational room sets; a 500-seat restaurant; Swedish Food Market and an incredibly cool children’s creche so you can safely leave the younger mudlets while you follow those floor arrows like lemmings, chucking picture frames, duvet covers and lamp shades (none of which were on your list) liberally into your basket.

The store stocks the full IKEA product range including old favourites such as the POANG chair and new launches including the VIKTIGT collection, which totally drew me in with its beautiful minimalist lines (I like to think I’m minimalist – in truth I’m probably maximalist, given the amount clutter I have to wade through at Muddy Berks HQ just to actually see the surface of the kitchen table that is ‘my office’. *Sigh*).

VIKTIGT is a new limited edition collaboration with Swedish glass and ceramic designer, Ingegerd Råman. Gorgeous chairs, baskets, rugs, lamps, bowls and sets of glass and ceramics, all in neutral shades made of materials like rattan, bamboo and natural fibre. In complete contrast to much of IKEA’s range, these pieces are all handcrafted. It’s a collection that will update your living space for the summer without breaking the bank. Here are some of my faves that you can buy online, or check them out in your brand spanking new IKEA – whoop whoop! See you in the ball pit!
