Your guide to a sweet smile

A cracking smile is not just for the rich, famous and TOWIE. You too can have flashy gnashers.

Brits have a shocking reputation for bad teeth. I’m not sure it’s entirely justified. I mean how often do you see a set of gnashers that look like you’ve been eating an apple through a tennis racket. OK, so we’re not talking about Shane McGowan extreme, but probably all have a gander at our teeth and think there’s room for improvement.

If you’re anything like me, your teeth take a bit of a battering. Tea, coffee, wine and a brief dalliance with cigs (guilty as charged, m’lud) can turn your pearly whites a lighter shade of buttercup. Add into the mix, teeth that aren’t straight and the odd gap, you wonder it we have anything to smile about.

But help is at hand and demand is high for cosmetic dentistry and we’re lucky in Berkshire to have Woodborough House in Pangbourne. A multi-award-winning practice, they a excelling at helping patients reach their smile goals. They offer a range of teeth whitening services, dental implants; teeth straightening, porcelain veneers and, if you don’t want to stop there, you can also plump for anti-wrinkle treatments and derma fillers.

Sarah Fitzharris poking about

Run by husband and wife team Nick Fahey and Sarah Fitzharris, the team at Woodborough House provide a five-star dental treatment whether you are in the chair for a check up or a brand spanking new set of pearly whites. They pride themselves in listening to their patients, they care about what you want to achieve and will use all their expertise and technical wizardry to achieve it. They won awards for ‘Best High Tech Practice’ and ‘Best Implant Practice’ (among many others), so it’ll come as no surprise that the treatment rooms are top spec and Nick’s in particular looks a little like the command centre of the Starship Enterprise.

A dental practice far far away

So what’s available? All the regular dental work. But the new toys can come out when seeking that kilowatt smile.

Teeth Whitening: The two main treatments consist of an at-home whitening system. The ‘Take-home’ kit includes specially-moulded dental trays inserted over the upper and lower teeth that can be worn at night or at the weekend. Alternatively Enlighten whitening combines in-practice and at-home treatment, but you can whiten your teeth by up to 16 shades.

Teeth Straightening: Straightening can make a huge difference to your smile and your confidence. Invisalign is a great if you want to avoid a mouth full of metal. Practically invisible, removable and fast, it’s a subtle system with no compromise. Woodborough House is currently offering a free consultation for this treatment so pop along for a chat. Six Month Smiles is designed to straighten teeth with speed, comfort and great value. Unlike Invisalign, the braces are fixed in place using traditional wires. A great option if you want a straight smile in a reduced time.

Invisalign: Braces? What braces?

Dental Implants: If you want the best in the biz, then you’ll want to see Nick Fahey. He heads up the implant treatments at Woodborough House. Implants are a great option for those who are missing teeth and want to replace them with realistic prosthetics. It’s important to fill in gaps from losing a tooth, if left unfilled the surrounding teeth can migrate causing all sorts of problems!

Porcelain Veneers: Designed to cover the surface of the tooth closing gaps, whitening discoloured teeth and aligning teeth for a straighter smile. There are a variety of options all of which are designed to ensure you leave with a smile.

Ignore the wrinkles, check out the teeth!

I must confess, I’ve had work done (some might say not enough, pah). After a childhood cycling accident my teeth were wonky and discoloured. It took many, many years (OK decades) before I could justify investing in me. I hated my teeth, rarely smiled and am absent from the family photo album. Nick and Sarah came to my rescue. New crowns, an implant a bit of teeth whitening and the results were amazing. People did pass comment about my teeth but not in a, ‘Jesus you’re giving the TOWIE cast a run for their money’ – it was more subtle. Probably because I was actually smiling for a change. The ‘bitchy resting face’ was a thing of the past. Now I’m happy to be in photos, you might even see me on Instagram from time to time but I’ll definitely be in the family album. For that reason alone, I cannot thank Woodborough House enough.

Accurate in every way, apart from Sarah is Fitzharrris, not Fitzgerald. No criticism, just that she is so brilliant 🙂

Thanks for the spot. I have corrected Sarah’s name. Hopefully she won’t torture me with her dental instruments.

Great post! made me laugh… Woodborough are a brilliant practice. They sorted my sons teeth after he had a run in with a pole, at fair speed, and lost two of his front teeth! The results were stunning ie undetectable… Nothing TOWISH xx

Glad your son is back to having a fine set of gnashers. Joey Essex has nothing to fear. Love Woodborough House too.
