Elements, Henley

If you like your salon to be a bit more au naturale than your hair colour, check out Elements.

There are so many reasons to love Henley, but if the river, museum, shops, indie cinema, festivals every flippin month and the natural beauty of the area aren’t enough, here’s another one. Elements Henley opened just last year on Bell St in this lovely bay fronted building as the town’s only Aveda salon, and it’s been getting great reviews. So no surprise that Ms Muddy Bucks/Oxon, Hero Brown, has been down to check it out. But it’s so close to the Berkshire borders it was rude not to share…

reception

I admire anyone who opens a new hair salon these days because the competition is just crazy intense, and no more so than in Henley – I’ve counted up at least 15 salons but even that it’s probably undercooking the numbers. If you’re an Aveda fan like me you’ll probably be half-committed to Elements before you even make it through the door, but actually it’s a very attractive space inside, with an inkeeping ‘natural’ theme, lots of wood, Zen undertones, rainforest style wallpaper and clean styling.

Large too, it goes back and back, and then there’s a whole other bit to the side that can be separately booked for larger groups like wedding parties, where everyone can have their hair and make up done together. Wish I’d done something like that at my wedding, it must be So.Much.Fun.

The mission to cover my grey hair is becoming the Everest for colourists across the county, and I’m quite fussy about the colour – I like it to be a tiny bit darker than my usual dark brown, but without any red tones floating in like a Henna infection. Here, check out the Before (urggggghh!)…

and the After (ahhhhhhh!).

AFTER

Prices are very reasonable I think, particularly for a town centre salon – the most expensive barnet chop from the creative director is £60 (I mean, that’s a bargain, people) and start at £45. Semi permanent colour is £40-49, half head highlights are £76-92 and full highlights £102-122.

Definitely one to put on your try list if you’re looking for a new salon or are close to Henley.
