The Langley is …. OPEN!
Superluxe The Langley in South Buckinghamshire opens its doors for the first time today! Here are 6 reasons why you should put it to the top of your hotel wish list.
It felt like the day would never come but Buckinghamshire’s brand new, super-luxe 5 star hotel The Langley has finally opened its doors for business today (Sat 1 June) , and you could say I’m a leetle bit excited. You may be shrugging your shoulders and thinking, what’s the big deal, we have some amazing hotels in our hood already. Oh no no no NO! Here, let me tell you why you’ll want The Langley bang on your radar from now on.
1. The hotel looks incredible
With its sweeping driveway and 150 acres of Capability Brown-designed grounds, this former 18th century former estate of the Duke of Malborough is a total knockout, spilling over with original features in a renovation that’s taken five painstaking years.
It’s all very period drama, with ornate fireplaces and doorways, floor mosaics and floor to ceiling windows. You kind of expect to see Colin Firth in a wet shirt beckoning you in – yup, there’s also a lake here – at the top of the external stairs on arrival. That said, there are some funkier touches like out-there deco chandelier in the drawing room (I want). Choose from 41 luxury rooms either in the main mansion or the Grade II listed Brewhouse building opposite.
2. The Spa is WHOPPER
I’ve been round this spa twice, once in the building stage and once on completion and, no exaggeration, it’s jaw-dropping. Here, have a gander at this lot.
We’re talking 1600 sq m of marble, glass and wood in the second biggest underground spa in Europe. The Langley spa features the only hotel hammam outside London, exclusive VIP suites, an amethyst crystal steam room, female only areas, heated relaxation loungers, ice fountain, five treatment rooms, a remarkable Himalayan salt sauna (above), two thermal areas and a stand-out 16 metre marble indoor swimming pool with an infinity edge.
Will that do you?! You can book spa days without staying at the hotel and frankly my dear, this has Girls Pamper Day written All. Over. It.
3. Matt Roberts is on board
I’ve been writing about Matt Roberts ever since I became a journalist in, ooh, the 19th century – he’s been at the top of his profession that long. If you want to be whipped into shape by this fitness guru, come for an overnighter whereby guests gain free access to the Matt Roberts gym and personal training facility – bespoke one-to-one training and consultations and group classes. The gym has all the latest gadgets, including a state-of-the-art interactive floor and wall that could be quite an complicated proposition on a hangover. I’m game!
4. Celeb spotters rejoice
May I point out that The Langley is literally three miles from Pinewood Studios? And the new James Bond film started filming just four weeks ago? Recent films wrapping there include Star Wars, Mary Poppins, and Jurassic World. Ahh yes, film star royalty, we’ve been expecting you.
5. Foodies will love it
With Chris Wheeler at Stoke Park and Paul O’Neill at Cliveden nearby, The Langley has dug deep to produce its own gastro super team. Cedar (named after the huge cedar trees in the ground) is the hotel’s principle restaurant, with head chef Marco Ardemagni and head pastry chef Francesco Martella, both formerly of Sushi Samba, the coalition of supercool Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian culture and cuisine that operates in Miami, Las Vegas, London and Amsterdam. Previous collective experience includes La Posta Vecchia, Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, Il Pelicano and L’Atelier de Joel Robouchon. I’m liking the sound of Cedar which promises all day dining and the opportunity to order sharing platters – I’m booked in this summer so I’ll report back asap.
6. Dogs can come too
Yes yes you can bring Fido! The Brewhouse has 6 garden rooms with outdoor covered area specifically so you can let your pooch experience the extraordinary surroundings. They can’t go into the restaurants but they won’t care – they can luxuriate on the enormous terrace instead.
