If you’re going to see one opera this season, then&nbsp;<a href="https://www.roh.org.uk/tickets-and-events/la-boheme-by-richard-jones-details?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=partnership&amp;utm_content=octoberarts&amp;cultureguide" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">La bohème</a>, Puccini’s love story set in Paris, is an absolute classic, with all the passion and drama that you want from the operatic stage (on until&nbsp;17 Nov). It follows the undulations of a romance between Rodolfo and Mimì, a penniless writer and lonely seamstress, and has a striking stage set and costumes.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.roh.org.uk/ticket-deals/young-roh?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=partnership&amp;utm_content=octoberarts&amp;cultureguide">Young ROH members</a>&nbsp;have exclusive access on 15 Nov, which means anyone aged 16–25 can sign up for free and book heavily discounted tickets.



This is followed by&nbsp;<a href="https://www.roh.org.uk/tickets-and-events/alcina-by-richard-jones-details?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=partnership&amp;utm_content=novemberarts&amp;cultureguide" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Alcina</a>, Handel’s fantastical opera set on a magical island where wild fantasies and dark desires come to life (until&nbsp;26 Nov) as Alcina lures her many lovers to their demise. An altogether more complex and sultry tale.



The Royal Opera House rounds off the month with another Puccini thriller,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.roh.org.uk/tickets-and-events/tosca-by-jonathan-kent-details?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=partnership&amp;utm_content=novemberarts&amp;cultureguide" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tosca</a>, running&nbsp;28 Nov –&nbsp;21 Dec. Set in 1800s Rome, it’s a darker story of bloodshed and betrayal as Floria Tosca attempts to save her imprisoned lover.&nbsp;If you can’t catch it live, the next best option is watching it live&nbsp;<a href="https://www.roh.org.uk/cinemas/production/48925?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=partnership&amp;utm_content=novemberarts&amp;cultureguide" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">in cinemas</a>&nbsp;across the country on&nbsp;10 Nov.&nbsp;

The Royal Ballet’s revival of Kenneth MacMillan’s 1978 production of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.roh.org.uk/tickets-and-events/mayerling-by-kenneth-macmillan-details?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=partnership&amp;utm_content=novemberarts&amp;cultureguide" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mayerling</a>&nbsp;returns to the Royal Opera House across Nov. The ballet offerstwo hours of exquisite dancing and high drama, based on the true story of Crown Prince Rudolf and his mistress Mary Vetsera,&nbsp;and&nbsp;set in the&nbsp;oppressive glamour of the late 19th&nbsp;Century Austro-Hungarian court. This psychological and political murder-suicide story hasn’t aged a bit and will have everyone gripped. It’s 14+, so why not take your teen? &nbsp;



Do you want the bad news or the good news? Bad news is that&nbsp;<a href="https://www.roh.org.uk/cinemas/production/51194?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=partnership&amp;utm_content=novemberarts&amp;cultureguide" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Royal Ballet: A Diamond Celebration</a>, a showcase of 60 years of performances including a number of one-offs and world premieres (!!) is sold out, but the good news is… you can watch it&nbsp;<a href="https://www.roh.org.uk/cinemas/production/51194?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=partnership&amp;utm_content=novemberarts&amp;cultureguide" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">live in cinemas</a>&nbsp;around the country on&nbsp;16 Nov. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.andjulietthemusical.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&amp; Juliet</a>&nbsp;is a new musical that started out in Manchester and hopped over to Broadway before making its way back here, and we love the concept – imagine Juliet doesn’t die and decides to quit Verona after her break-up with Romeo and dance the night away with her pals. From the writer of Schitt’s Creek (I mean, it’s got to be good!), this comic, pop-fuelled extravaganza is a real riot. On at the Shaftesbury Theatre&nbsp;until 25 March.



Speaking of Broadway… after receiving rave reviews and ovations, Disney’s cult musical,&nbsp;<a href="https://newsiesthemusical.co.uk/home/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Newsies</a>, which begins it’s run at London’s Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre on&nbsp;29 Nov. Based on the true story of a paperboy who takes on the publishing giants that are threatening his livelihood, this is an uplifting&nbsp;Billie Elliott&nbsp;kind of affair.

Our girl crush Emma Corrin (The Crown,&nbsp;Pennyworth) is gracing the board right now in Virginia Woolf’s classic,&nbsp;<a href="https://thegarricktheatre.co.uk/tickets/orlando/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Orlando</a>, on at the Garrick Theatre&nbsp;until 25 Feb. Expect court room drama, a Russian princess, London frozen over and above all, expect the unexpected. ​​



For something completely different, see the all-drag killer comedy&nbsp;<a href="https://nimaxtheatres.com/shows/death-drop-2-back-in-the-habit/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Death Drop 2: Back in the Habit</a>&nbsp;at the Garrick Theatre. Trapped in a convent with a killer, Sis Marple and her gang of nuns unearth the clues to reveal the culprit.&nbsp;Sister Act&nbsp;meets&nbsp;Midsomer Murders… what could possibly go wrong?&nbsp;8 Nov-19 Nov.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;



When the Old Vic gets its mittens on&nbsp;<a href="https://www.oldvictheatre.com/stage/event/a-christmas-carol-1" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">A Christmas Carol</a>,&nbsp;you know this isn’t going to be a straight-forward telling of Ebenezer Scrooge’s festive redemption. From Jack Thorne, a writer on&nbsp;Shameless,&nbsp;Skins, and the TV adaptation of&nbsp;His Dark Materials, this is a very fresh take on a Christmas tradition.&nbsp;12 Nov-7 Jan.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Waterstones, that gorgeous Piccadilly temple to books is hosting Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan to chat about their brilliant new work of fiction,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.waterstones.com/events/jodi-picoult-and-jennifer-finney-boylan-in-conversation-at-conway-hall-london/london-piccadilly" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mad&nbsp;Honey</a>. Join them both in conversation to discuss secrets and identity on&nbsp;11 Nov. The&nbsp;<a href="https://efglondonjazzfestival.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> EFG London Jazz Festival</a> &nbsp;returns to London for its 30th birthday on&nbsp;11-20 Nov&nbsp;bringing the brightest in global Jazz talent from across the globe to celebrate this milestone. Names like Eric Harland, John Toussaint, Chucho Valdes and Xhosa Cole (above) will play a variety of venues in the city, from Cadogan Hall to the Royal Festival Hall and the Barbican. &nbsp;



If pop’s more your thang, how about the master, Gary Barlow?&nbsp;<a href="https://adifferentstage.show/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">A Different Stage</a>, based on his biography, is on at the Savoy Theatre&nbsp;21-28 Nov&nbsp;having already sold out across the country, with GB sharing his life story and (hopefully) singing the odd number along the way. The oh-so-talented&nbsp;<a href="https://boisdaletickets.co.uk/p/7417;jsessionid=1A9BC522B997A027A6CB512EF3A7868F" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">KT Tunstall</a>&nbsp;is also London-bound this month, playing Canary’s Wharf’s Boisdale, famous for its whisky bar – the perfect tipple to sip while watching the talented Scot in a really intimate setting (11 Nov). &nbsp;



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">ART&nbsp;</h2>

Talk about titan of the arts…&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/exhibitions/turner-on-tour" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Turner on Tour</a>&nbsp;is the big winter show at the National Gallery&nbsp;launching 3 Nov and features two paintings by Turner that haven’t been in the UK since 1914. ‘Harbour of Dieppe: Changement de Domicile‘ and ‘Cologne, the Arrival of a Packet-Boat: Evening‘ are part of the Frick Collection in New York and are here on loan. Get in early to see the ground-breaking paintings (until 19 Feb).&nbsp;



Get a glimpse of the work of Abakans – also known as Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz – who broke the mould in the 60s and 70s with her new take on sculpture. Her rarely-seen sculptures are all made of organic materials such as horsehair, sisal and hemp rope, and are on display at the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.tate.org.uk/press/press-releases/magdalena-abakanowicz-every-tangle-of-thread-and-rope#:~:text=In%20November%202022%20Tate%20Modern,in%20the%201960s%20and%2070s.">Tate Modern</a>&nbsp;later this month –&nbsp;17 Nov-23 May.



The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.visitlondon.com/things-to-do/place/209165-victoria-and-albert-museum" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">V&amp;A</a>&nbsp;has a nostalgic one for families this month with its&nbsp;Beatrix Potter: Drawn to Nature&nbsp;exhibit which looks at Potter through another lens – as a scientist and conservationist – and how this reflected in her much-loved work. Great for all ages and on&nbsp;until 8 Jan.&nbsp;

Of course we have to mention Tate Britain now – and this month it’s all about the spellbinding works of British artist Lynette Yiadom-Boakye at&nbsp;Tate Britain with her&nbsp;<a href="https://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-britain/lynette-yiadom-boakye" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fly in League with the Night</a>&nbsp;show. It’s a series of portraits of people painted from the artist’s imagination.&nbsp;24 Nov-22 Feb&nbsp;
