Soho House riverside pop up
Fashionably late to the party, but Soho House has launched a pop up in Windsor. The Summer River House at Oakley Court is open to Soho House members only. To gain access to the cool riverside seating areas, day beds and tented restaurant you’ll need to hunt down a card-carrying fashionable friend – new memberships are currently frozen with a 12-month waiting list. By all accounts The Summer River House has been such a success it could become a permanent fixture. If you’re not a member, or no anyone who is, you’ll have to make do gawping across the velvet rope. That said, Oakley Court is pretty stylish hangout in its own right.
Bye bye Blackbird
Chef Dom Robinson was awarded a Michelin star for his exceptional food at The Blackbird in Bagnor, but he’s handing it back, closing the gastropub and reopening as a fine dining restaurant. Renaissant – meaning reborn – will open for dinner service on 10 September, four years after Dom opened The Blackbird and will serve the same classic French food he’s renowned for. We can’t wait to see what’s he’s done with the place.
RYND opens in Wokingham
California dreaming? Put your passport away, laydee, you won’t be needing it to get to Wokingham. But Wokingham is exactly where your should be heading to experience its latest new foodie haunt. RYND is a California-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar in the old Town Hall building – and design mavens will swoon. So goddam chic and has a lovely outdoor terrace. Expect Californian tapas (no clue but I’m keen to try it) and a phenomenal cocktail list. Race you for a booking.
New London Cocktail Club
News that will leave your shaken and stirred. The London Cocktail Club is finally opening in Berkshire. Following the closure of Smash ping pong bar in Reading, LCC will transform the space into a deliciously stylish drinking den for 24/7 party people.
Owners JJ Goodman and James Hopkins revolutionised London’s cocktail scene – aided by their victory on the 2009 TV showThe Restaurant, with restaurateur Raymond Blanc and Dragon’s Den’s Sarah Willingham. Since then, they have opened multiple bars across London and won a range of prestigious awards. Make sure you put this on your must-visit list when it opens.
Winners head to Spinners
For anyone mourning the loss of SMASH, you can now flex your competitive spirit while ordering a double on the rocks at a new stylish golf and bowling bar. Spinners in Reading has just opened in Queen’s Walk offering crazy golf, boutique bowling alley and interactive darts. And there’s not a sticky carpet in sight. While we’re crushing on the velvet bar stool and abundance of neon, you’ll also love the Chesterfield sofas, blossom trees and flowing river. GAME ON!
Test Kitchen’s Windsor Burger
Honesty Burgers has opened on Thames Street in Windsor and to celebrate they got Windsor food legends Milly and John of Test Kitchen to develop an exclusive burger. Ready to drool? The WINDSOR burger combines Honest beef, Waterloo cheese from Village Maid Cheese, bacon, tarragon & miso butter, crispy onions, mushroom sour cream, lettuce and beef jus mayo, inspired by Test Kitchen’s recipes. It comes with Honest’s homemade rosemary salted chips as standard and is best enjoyed alongside Optic pale ale from local brewers Stardust in Maidenhead.
Reading Biscuit Factory
I raise you a Bourbon biscuit and see you a boutique cinema. Reading Biscuit Factory is set to open anytime now. Don’t be fooled by the name and its nod Reading’s biscuit making past, this is Broad Street Mall’s cool new big screen hangout. Really Local Group is a developer committed to creating and restoring cultural hangouts so that the heart is put back into high streets. This new Reading cinema replaces the old Argos store and will have four screens, outdoor terrace, food kiosk and café. Watch this space for opening deets.
Ready to try Bubble Tea?
Bubble tea is a phenomenon that sweeping the nation – and it’s coming to Windsor. If you’re a dedicated scroller of Instagram, the chance are you’ll have seen influencers sipping this milky frogs spawn concoction. No need to go in search of a hip London hangout to try it yourself, Paeonia, a premium bubble tea cafe, will be launching in early August.
Paeonia is the brainchild of acclaimed foodie Anh Pham, who has spent the past decade working in the UK’s hospitality industry. A tea lover with a strong passion for food and beverages, Anh has tasted many bubble teas during her travels, and has created her own recipes to wow the Windsor crowd.
