Ooh la la, The Pot Kiln’s star attraction
Berkshire’s blessed with a foxy line up of first class chefs and now we can boast one more – Michelin star French chef Daniel Galmiche is joining the Pot Kiln in Frilsham (right on Muddy Berkshire’s doorstep) as Chef Patron. Squeals of excitement and a double whoop whoop!
Daniel’s CV oozes luxury and Michelin stars. He may not have a big neon sign saying ‘freakin’ talented’ but he quietly delivers the goods wherever he hangs his apron from La Gavrouche, Cliveden House, Harvey’s in Bristol via The Vineyard, The Gore in Kensington and now the Pot Kiln.
The Pot Kiln is one of the prettiest locations ever, and has always had a rep for great game dishes. A tradition that will continue but with Daniel’s French flair.
Perfection takes time and, despite a bit of delay, my spies tell me the new hotel, Monkey Island Estate, will finally open at the end of August (worms can be very gossipy, y’know). It’s one of the UK’s hottest hotel openings of 2018 and it just happens to be in Berkshire, what can we expect?
Well, with New York-based Champalimaud Design working their interiors magic, it’s going to be have the same relaxed luxe vibes of its sister hotel, the Gainsborough Bath Spa. Executive Chef Will Hemming (ex Simpsons on the Strand) will be putting food in the table in the brasserie, using some ingredients grown on the island, plus the Monkey Bar, Whiskey Snug, 27 luxury rooms, 3 suites and 6 exclusive use properties.
And best of all, a bespoke Dutch barge is currently being transformed into a mini spa with 3 treatment rooms for you to pamper yourself on the river. It should be open from September. Cue stampede.
Make mine a double and don’t be shy with the ice! It is no secret I love a gin, so I’m a little giddy at Muddy award-winning destination pub, The Newbury’s new private dining experience The Distillery. Opening in the autumn is will be kitted out with a micro distillery, offer an exclusive tasting menu for parties of up to 16 and gin making and tasting. Expect The Newbury’s arty gastropub vibe to be vamped up to the max.
Living in Royal Berkshire we can get a bit blasé when it comes to the royal family, but during a cheeky run (well, it was a walk-run-walk-walk, if I’m honest) I bumped into Prince George and Princes Charlotte playing in the river while staying at Granny Carole’s. Totes normal childhood stuff, cooling off in the heatwave, watched by Royal Protection. Not sure what the protocol called for, I was too busy holding on to my excitable. But I can confirm they were incredibly sweet, chatty and polite. In other exciting celeb news, we’ve heard a wild rumour Kevin McLeod is involved in a grand design building project in Frilsham and Lenny Henry is moving to Streatley in West Berkshire – doesn’t he live in a Premier Inn though?
