<p>We know we haven&#8217;t got past Halloween, but we&#8217;ve got big Christmas news. No, Father Christmas is not going to be the next prime minister (although he wouldn&#8217;t be the worst candidate), but <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://greatchristmascarnivalnewbury.com/" target="_blank">The Great Christmas Carnival</a> (27 Nov – 2 Jan) at Newbury Racecourse is going to be giving London&#8217;s Winter Wonderland and run for their money. </p>

<p>Organisers Underbelly have confirmed the brand new for 2022 event will feature a Flying Father Christmas and grotto, theme park rides like the The Greatest Hits Radio Big Wheel, a spinning coast and giant roller coaster, plus Christmas tree maze, market, Circus Berlin will perform in the Big Top and practice your triple salchow because there&#8217;s an ice rink too. <a href="https://greatchristmascarnivalnewbury.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tickets £5 admission</a>. </p>

<p>Strictly fans can avoid getting the post glitterball blue this year, because Baz Luhrmann&#8217;s <em><a href="https://whatsonreading.com/venues/hexagon/whats-on/baz-luhrmanns-strictly-ballroom" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Strictly Ballroom The Musical</a></em> is coming to Reading&#8217;s Hexagon Theatre – 16 -21 Jan. It stars former pro Kevin Clifton, former celeb contestant Maisie Smith and has been directed and choreographed by judge Craig Revel-Horwood. Based on Baz Luhrmann’s award-winning worldwide film phenomenon, <em>Strictly Ballroom: The Musical</em> is heading out on a brand-new UK and Ireland tour. It&#8217;s a feel-good show, you&#8217;ll love the music which features retro hits like <em>Love is in the Air</em>, <em>Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps</em> and <em>Time After Time</em>, as well all new music written by the likes of Sia, David Foster and Eddie Perfect. <a href="https://whatsonreading.com/venues/hexagon/whats-on/baz-luhrmanns-strictly-ballroom" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tickets from £27.50</a>.</p>

<p>Reading’s giving off&nbsp;<em>Last Christmas</em>&nbsp;vibes with the return of the much-loved&nbsp;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.apresbar.co.uk/reading" target="_blank">Aprés Bar</a>&nbsp;on the 4 Nov. The ski lodge is popping up The Oracle Riverside with mini chalets offering Christmas cocktails and frosty beer, plus chalet-oke for anyone feeling the urge to belt out Mariah&#8217;s <em>All I Want For Christmas</em>. The mini chalet’s are available to book. Every booking slot is one hour and 50 minutes long. The mini chalets cost £20 on weekdays and Sundays and £30 on Saturdays. The larger chalets, meanwhile, cost £35 on weekdays and Sundays and £45 on Saturdays.</p>

<p>Life is sweet in Hurst, a new chocolatier opens tomorrow (22 Oct), with former PM Theresa May cutting the ribbon at Lea Farm in Hurst. <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.chocolate-parties.com/" target="_blank">Chocoholics</a> is a family run business that has been going for 35 years, and now owner Emma is taking the plunge with her own brick and mortar shop. Former PM It&#8217;s a Willy Wonka paradise of chocs selling hot chocolate bombs, cocoa couture luxury chocs, novelty gifts, as well Halloween and festive treats. </p>

<p>Over in Newbury a new concept restaurant has opened on Bartholomew Street. <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://mintnewbury.co.uk/" target="_blank">Mint</a> is all about delicious, nutritious food, great coffee and good time. It&#8217;s a place to fip open your laptop and work or simply collapse into a squishy sofa for a natter. We likey.</p>

<p>When you think if school buildings, they can be Hogwarts grand or uninspiring and functional, well not Crosfields School in Reading. It has just scooped a prize at the British Construction Industry Awards 2022. In recognition for its new senior school building, it has won Social Infrastructure Project of the Year. Judges raved about the innovation and sustainability embedded in the design and construction where a collaborative digital approach utilised offsite construction and cross laminated timber. Huge congrats to everyone at Crosfields School Reading.</p>

<p>Did you spot the Great British Bake Off is has returned to its original location at Welford Park? After a couple of covid years filming in Essex, Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas pitched their tent in the glorious grounds of the Lord Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire, James Puxley&#8217;s family home for the 13th season of the Channel 4 show. Unlucky for some, but not for Berkshire. Celebrate with a chocolate eclair and a Paul Hollywood handshake.</p>
