<p>True-crime podcast fans are probably already obsessed with Octavia Spencer’s super sleuthing character, Poppy Parnell, in&nbsp;<em><strong>Truth Be Told.</strong></em>&nbsp;For those not in the know, Spencer plays a journalist and true-crime podcaster who uses her platform to solve crime (think&nbsp;<em>Serial</em>&nbsp;meets&nbsp;<em>The Sinner</em>&nbsp;meets&nbsp;<em>How to Get Away with Murder</em>). This time around Parnell puts her life on the line in the pursuit of truth, justice… oh and two missing teenagers. An addictive, twisty, tense watch.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Netflix keep on churning out the remakes and this time around the cult classic&nbsp;<em>That ’70s Show</em>&nbsp;gets the Netflix treatment. It’s the same basement, the same begrudging/generous grown-ups (Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp) and the same (but different) bunch of teenage misfits. With a few surprise cameos from some of the original cast (oh hi Ashton Kutcher)&nbsp;<em><strong>That ’90s Show</strong></em>&nbsp;screams familiarity but hey, if it ain’t broke and all that, just enjoy the walk down memory lane.</p>

<p>Mindy Kaling’s horny and humorous series about (you guessed it) the sex lives of college girls returns, and with it a whole lot of laughs to stave off Blue Monday. Expect more light-hearted sexcapades from college roommates Bela, Leighton, Kimberly and Whitney as they navigate college life along while trying to set up an all male strip-club – a juicy little subplot which immediately caught our attention (can’t think why).</p>

<p>We thought it after seeing her in&nbsp;<em>Game of Thrones</em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Catherine Called Birdy&nbsp;</em>and now we’re calling it after seeing her in&nbsp;<em><strong>The Last of Us</strong></em>&nbsp;– Bella Ramsay is epic. She fronts this tense end-of-the-world drama alongside Pedro Pascal, Anna Torv, Storm Reid, Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett. Set 20 years after a parasitic fungus sparked a global pandemic (um, it’s a bit close for comfort),&nbsp;<em>The Last of Us</em>&nbsp;portrays the ultimate mission for survival. Based on a video game (stay with us) this is a white knuckle ride you’ll not want to miss.</p>

<p>Where the working mums at? ITV’s new comedy drama follows three doctors, played by the wonderful Parminder Nagra, Lara Pulver and Lisa McGrills, who return to work in the NHS following maternity leave and the pandemic (or, as one of their colleagues refers to it, “a holiday”). Darkly humorous, the three women try to navigate motherhood and their careers in the ultimate juggling act. Incredibly timely,&nbsp;<strong><em>Maternal&nbsp;</em></strong>is funny because it’s true – world take note.</p>

<p>Taylor Sheridan’s slew of TV hits seems unstoppable, if he’s involved in something we’re watching, just saying. This week sees the return of his crime drama series&nbsp;<strong><em>The Mayor of Kingstown</em></strong>&nbsp;which focuses on America’s prison system. After *that* prison riot which ended season one, Jeremy Renner’s Mike McLusky is trying to pick up the pieces and regain control of his empire. Diving deep into themes of corruption, inequality and systemic racism, this remains eye-opening and exciting viewing.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong><em>Bank of Dave,</em>&nbsp;Mon 16 Jan, Netflix</strong></h2>

<p>Fronted by the cream of British acting talent, (Hugh Bonneville, Phoebe Dynevor, Jo Hartley, Rory Kinnear), and written by Chris Foggin, (<em>Cold Feet, Death in Paradise</em>), this feel good film is a total treat. Based on the real-life experiences of Dave Fishwick, Burnley local and self-made millionaire, who took on London’s financial district (and won) to set up a community bank to help out local businesses. Touching, heartwarming, and joyful – just what we need in Jan.</p>

<p>Controversial but still (annoyingly) addictive&nbsp;<strong><em>Love Island</em></strong>&nbsp;is back for the ninth time with a fresh batch of buff singles, (including a farmer from Bucks!), hoping to find love and a new career as an insta-influencer (we kid, we love it really). With Maya Jama taking on presenting duties, the show has mixed things up with this first winter offering and by featuring a blind contestant – a sign of more inclusivity to come, and a more diverse group of hot singletons.</p>
