<p>Okay, so a show about an economic disaster might not seem like escapism, but at the very least the 80s wardrobe will cheer you up. The second season of this Wall Street drama starring Don Cheadle tells the tale of three traders responsible for ‘Black Monday’, the stock market’s worst crash to date (well, until 2008, anyway). Funnier and more stylish than it sounds.</p>

<p>Not ready to give up&nbsp;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://muddystilettos.co.uk/arts-culture/film-tv/best-halloween-horror-films-for-adults/" target="_blank">scary films</a>&nbsp;just because Halloween is over? This’ll be right up your creepy hotel corridor, then.&nbsp;<em>Doctor Sleep&nbsp;</em>is an adaptation of Stephen King’s 2013 follow-up novel to&nbsp;<em>The Shining</em>, and stars Ewan McGregor as Danny Torrence, a man with psychic abilities trying to protect a young girl from a child-killing cult known as The True Knot.</p>

<p>We love a Scandi original, and this Swedish-language rom-com-dram (is that a thing?) ticks all our boxes. Married mother of two Sofie starts a high-pressure job at a publishing house, where she meets young IT tech Max. What starts as a dodgy blackmail situation quickly becomes a flirtatious game where the two secretly challenge each other to do things. Think&nbsp;<em>Yes Man</em>, but sexy and Scandi.</p>



<p><strong>The End of the F***ing World, Season 2 (Netflix, 4 November)</strong></p>

<p>If you’re not quite depressed enough this week, try the second season of this British crime-comedy on for size (it’ll certainly put having no sourdough in the shops in perspective). The first series focused on seriously troubled teens James and Alyssa, who embark on a road trip in search of Alyssa’s real father, and series two picks up on the cliffhanger ending (no spoilers here).</p>

<p>With October over, it’s officially time to swap spooks for sleigh bells – maybe too early for some, but you can’t blame us for wanting a bit of cheesy escapism this month, surely (she says through a mouthful of mince pies)? Netflix kicks off its holiday season with a beachy rom-com starring Kat Graham (<em>The Vampire Diaries</em>) and Alexander Ludwig (<em>Vikings</em>), based on a real Christmas tradition in which U.S. forces spread aid and festive cheer throughout the Pacific isles.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Secret: Dare to Dream (Netflix, 5 November)</h2>

<p>Remember way back in 2006 when self-help title&nbsp;<em>The Secret</em>&nbsp;was on every woman’s bookshelf? Well they’ve only gone and turned it into a (slightly weirdly-titled) rom-com starring Katie Holmes and Josh Lucas. Seeing as the whole premise of&nbsp;<em>The Secret&nbsp;</em>is about the power of positive thinking and bringing good things into your life via ‘the law of attraction’, the film follows suit – which may or may not be the message you need right now.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse</strong> (Netflix, 6 November)</h2>

<p>Marvel fans and families alike will be over the moon to see this Academy Award-winning animation swing onto Netflix this week. In a parallel universe New York City, a young Miles Morales is in training to become the new Spiderman after his world’s Peter Parker is taken down. Sounds like typical cartoon fodder, but don’t be too quick to write it off – it’s hugely well-rated by critics, and is a clever take on the traditional superhero movie.</p>

<p>America’s longest-running cartoon sitcom strikes again, with 22 new episodes landing on Disney+ this Friday. That should keep you going through the weekend, at least!</p>

<p>Speaking of binge-watching, if you haven’t had a chance to check out US comedy<em>&nbsp;Community</em>&nbsp;yet, then what better time than during a month-long lockdown? This cult favourite series features an ensemble cast of misfits including Donald Glover, Chevy Chase, Alison Brie, Joel McHale and Gillian Jacobs, and is set in the classrooms of a community college (geddit?). Catch the entire show on Amazon Prime from Sunday.</p>
