Alder Ridge Vineyard tour and tasting

Fathers who are fans of fizz should definitely have Alder Ridge in Hungerford on their radar – not only do they sell some truly excellent English sparkling wine, they offer regular tours and tastings, too. If you’re free on Father’s Day, hotfoot it to the vineyard to take part in a Tour and Tasting, in association with Berks Fizz. (If you’re feeling really generous, you can let him have all the fun and offer to be designated driver.)

Cliveden House boat trip and picnic

Aye aye Captain. Head to the super-luxe Cliveden House Hotel – a stonking Italianate mansion set in 376 acres of gardens and woodland – and take a special boat trip. There are two beautiful vintage boats – one for 10 guests, the other for four – and you can add a posh picnic lunch, afternoon tea or Champagne to scoff or quaff as you a potter down to Henley. It doesn’t get better than this… unless you can snaffle an overnight stay and keep the boat.

Pottery Taster Evening

Not a pottery tasting class, but a taster class, this introduction to pottery at the glorious The Base’s Lookout Studio in Newbury is the perfect gift for any dad who fancies their hand at the wheel. After three hours of learning the ropes, Great Pottery Throwdown contestant and pro potter Cait Gould will fire his handiwork and it’ll be ready to collect a few weeks later.

Pop art exhibition Eduardo Paolozzi

So bright he’s gotta wear shades. If dad’s a bit arty farty or just loves pop culture, check out the 50 works by Pop Art master, Sir Eduardo Paolozzi at The base Greenham. One of the pioneers of the pop art movement in the UK, Paolozzi was a compulsive collector and a jumbler of icons. He was the first to appropriate images from ads to create work representative of the shinier, happier lifestyles that were touted in American magazines.
