Festive fashion, sorted!
Party season is fast approaching, yippee! But, what to wear? Before you cover yourself in Superglue and jump in a giant vat of sequins, read our edit of the best party wear – featuring twinkly little gems from our faves at Parkway Newbury.
Jigsaw is on fire it at the moment – if you haven’t shopped there for a while, do take a peek. I’ve got my eye on this slick midnight blue velvet tux jacket with satin lapels. Throw over an LBD, jumpsuit or jeans and you’re good to go.
The problem with a lot of party dresses is that they’re (a) ridiculously revealing and (b) aimed squarely at 17-year-olds. But say hello to this grown-up LBD (with sleeves – always a bonus) from Monsoon. Dress it down with a biker jacket or up with a tuxedo blazer. It’s a beauty.
Bored of LBDs? Then you need an LBJ. No, not an ex-US President, rather a kick-ass jumpsuit. There are loads to choose from this season, but I’m coveting this one from Jack Wills, tailored, strapless with an unsubtle bow detail. It’s a fab party alternative. Just add spangly accessories.
If your festive style is a bit more low-key than a disco ball, can I introduce you to these New Look silver boots. They’ll jolly up the most basic jeans and jumper combo with minimal effort. Plus you’ll look a bit like Beyoncé and that’s always a good thing.
How nonchalantly sexy is this little number? I’d wear this bronze pleated M&S skirt with a lightweight black knit plus a black stiletto. It would also be perfect on Christmas day wth an ankle boot. And at that prom, you can’t go wrong. Love LOVE!
In fact these black stilettos will do nicely. Who can forget Carrie Bradshaw’s embellished Manolos in SATC? Not me! No need to max out your credit card for the real thing, say hi the high street homage. These Ted Baker beauties can be found in Johnson Shoes. So Cinderella, slip your totes in these bad boys. Snap em up. They’ll sell out in a flash.
If you’re buying a party coat, go faux fur. For years I feared I looked like Sully from Monster Inc, but tis not true. They are sassy, glam, never fall out of fashion and they keep you warm on a late-night stumble home. This H&M one is a pretty, vintagey shade of blush and pretty good value.
Sometimes you’ve gotta go big or go home – and you’re not going home, love, I’ve just ordered another round of cocktails. Topshop is partywear Mecca this season – my pick is this razzle-dazzle sequin dress. No one’s going to put Baby in the corner when you’re wearing this little number.
The Christmas sweater doesn’t have to be the ironic equivalent of the musical tie. Nope, the disco jumper is out of this world and you can even wear them on the dancefloor. This Mint Velvet silver sequin knit with silver sequins will look great with trousers and a heel or jeans and ankle boots for a more casual do.
Finally, shimmer and shine with a few well chosen baubles to complete your outfit. Whether you plan to spend or splurge, there’s something for everyone. Fun, frivolous and festive, the New Look pink tassled are a bargainous £5.99. If you’re looking for more than a one night stand, the Pandora feather drop earrings are lush and would go with everything. They’re an investment at £95 but they’re well made in sterling silver. If you’re prepared to splurge, the Fraser Hart ear jackets are 2 in 1 – were as a stud or with the jacket featuring a laurel leaf motif. They’re £150 but they’re ear candy you’ll never want to take off.
Channel you Robert Palmer Addicted To Love vibes with a red lip – my fave is Chanel’s Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in Rouge Charnel, currently on offer at Debenhams, £25.20. And to keep your skin from looking like a dried out old dish rag in the morning, use Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair. Beauty Editors have raved about it for years. Your skin will thank you for it, while your head and liver are giving it both barrels, currently £49.50.
