If they didn’t have you at the wisteria covered frontage, then its location in the foodie mecca of Bray is sure to have you running for a fireside seat. Find it in the leafy village of Holyport, but The Belgian Arms isn’t letting Heston and pals hog the limelight with their constellation of Michelin stars in the nearby area. They more than hold their own with a menu serving up seasonal British fuss-free food such as Fernygrove Pork Chop, Halibut, and Tuna tartare plus all the classics like a burger, fish and chips, and a juicy rump steak. Their Sunday roast is a scorcher – a favourite locals flock to. Plus the short but sweet kids menu will keep even the fussiest of picky scoffers satisfied.

The interior is classy, simple, and classic with a homely feel and open fires to huddle up close to during the winter months. There’s a real emphasis on simplicity here and the staff are warm and welcoming. We particularly love the view over the idyllic village pond, and outdoor space, perfect for a sunny al fresco nibble – it has that quintessential British feel that we just can’t get enough of.

In fact, the history of the 200-year-old pub is particularly interesting. Prior to the First World War it was known as ‘The Eagle’, but during the war, the prisoner of war camp was at the end of Holyport Street and the Germans used to march past and salute the Eagle. Afterwards, as many of the local villagers fought in Belgium, it was decided it would be renamed ‘The Belgian Arms’. And now history continues with its fab food and cosy vibe where diners are encouraged to live in the slow lane. Just for a while.
