We talk a lot about the provenance of food, but it seems we are just as fussy about our drinks too. Boutique bars are big in London, but did you know Berkshire has one too? Sit & Sip in Wokingham is a hip hangout, serving local beers, artisan spirits and bang-on-trend drinkies that can lead you down a yellow brick road of new tipples.

Sit & Sip sources small batches of pretty much everything, bar the two taps dedicated to Finchampstead’s Siren beers. The whole place is a celebration of artisan drinks producers, so you can pimp up your favourite drink from the same old to something a bit more special. The food offering is limited to grazing and snacking, but the quality is paramount. It’s a big Muddy thumbs up for the local cheeses.

It’s a bar with all the unpretentious, funky bar vibes – metro tiles and typographical mosaics, fun neon art, industrial details and comfy retro furniture, and the all-important booth. It’s warm, friendly, sociable and crucially for bars these days (for where we go, those men are bound to follow), female-friendly.

Owner Jamie Mattingley launched Sit & Sip because he loves a pub and his wife is more of a cocktail bar kinda gal – and this is the perfect halfway house. A place to enjoy quality bevvy, not necessary knocking back the booze into oblivion (no judgment, if that’s how you roll) in stylish surroundings. James loves a bang-on-trend healthy drink, too, and offers CBD (that’s, er, cannabis but without the trippiness) coffee and tonic water.
