We love this boutique hotel in Reading for its central location and its grande dame exterior that segues into cool, Insta-fabulous interiors.
A slick hotel, bar and brasserie slap bang in the middle of Reading – right opposite the railway station. It’s a stunning white grade II listed period building, but it’s not showy. Originally built by rock star of the railways Isambard Kingdom Brunel, it’s now a hipster hangout for drinkers, diners and anyone looking for a stylish sleepover.
The interiors are über-stylish, with Eames chairs and avant-garde paintings dotted around the place, and a cool, laid-back ambience. The brasserie and bar have a chic industrial vibe: neon signs, exposed brick walls and gallery wall of mirrors – it’s got every Instagram-worthy nook and cranny covered. The bar rocks cocktails and good times by night and lattés and loungers by day. It also well known for its stonking, and slighty quirky, afternoon tea.
There are 75 luxury rooms ranging from cosy doubles to a suites provide great beds for sleepy heads, mood lighting, power showers, delicious wines and naughty nibbles. Plus you’re encouraged to take the toiletries with you before you think about slipping them into your case.
Beyond the walls of the hotel, you’re a short walk to Reading’s shops or hop on a train you can fly into London Paddington in just 25 minutes. How good is that?
The perfect des-res? I’d say so!
