If you’re looking for a luxury home from home break, then Braywood House Estate is damn near perfect. The village of Winkfield is a stones throw from Windsor (with its mainline station into London – useful for the capitally-based), Windsor Great Park, Legoland, the gastro enclave of Bray and Marlow, Ascot and more. In other words, its situated plum in Berkshire’s well-heeled gorgeousness.

Built in 1861 for the Belgian ambassador Jean Van de Weyer, Braywood was originally a vicarage with adjoining church – in fact, Queen Victoria was a regular visitor. Take note all Victoria fans – Jenna Coleman is not included in your stay. Flint-faced, with Bath stone detailing, the house itself is breathtakingly stylish and unique. The attendant church was demolished in the 1960s, however its aisle and a 23 graves form a part of the front garden.

The house sleeps 8. There are 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 large reception rooms and a stonking kitchen. Owners James and Rachael pride themselves on their family offering (although not suitable for under 2s) and certainly you can’t argue with the massive 10 acres of forestry and gardens with woodland play space, a zip wire, treehouse and fire pit for nights round the campfire toasting marshmallows.

But what about us adults? How about a concierge service? The on-site team can organise a private chef if you don’t fancy cooking or a treatment from one of the spa therapists at your beck and call. They can also book restaurants, activities, taxis, you name it, they’ll sort it. Aside from the cool interiors and abundance of home tech, there’s a gym, outside dining with its own chandelier and you’re free to roam the Crown Estate forest (Shhh! Braywood has special permission to do this).

It’s a fantastic place for family fun, getting your mates together or celebrating a special occasion. Unusually for self-catering properties you can book your stay like a hotel, from two nights or weeks at a time. How about forever?
