Half term is looming large, so in the interest of preserving your sanity, we’ve curated the best nine courses to keep them happy and out of your house/hair.
Kids Yoga, Swan at Streatley, Tues 13 Feb
Release the tension! Yup the kids need to go. Out, I mean go out. And what better place to send them than kids yoga at Swan at Streatley. Two creative yoga workshops for different age groups (4-7 yr olds at 1.15pm and 8-13 yr olds at 2.15pm), where they’ll get to release energy and hit the reset button. You can work on your own tension in the cafe/bar – coffee? wine? Choose your poison and relax.
Bake With Me, The Real Macaron Company Newbury, Tues 13 Feb
On your marks, get set… BAKE! If you’re kitchen skills are a little lack lustre, with more soggy bottoms and burnt offerings, then send your kids to The Real Macaron Company in Newbury. Glass Workshops, Pisces Glass Creations Moss End, Tues 13 – Fri 16 Feb
It’s Feb, the weather’s a bit meh, hang out with the kids and do something together. That’s right TOGETHER… Pisces Glass Creations has a fab studio at Moss End Garden Village, and Jackie’s running fun glass fusing workshops during half term (Tues-Fri, 1.30pm-3pm or 3pm-4.30pm). Reading FC Soccer School, The Dome, Reading Mon 12 Feb – Fri 16 Feb
The Royals are running their incredibly popular half-term soccer school for boys and girls to learn the Reading FC way. Courses are held at 4 sites – The Dome Reading, Goals in Woodley and Henwick Playing Fields Thatcham and The Pigott School Reading. Sign up for 1 to 5 days depending on the location and event. It’s worth checking the website to see what suits. It’s a fun day and keeps the off the iPad for a bit. My eldest loved it.
Ski & Snowboarding Camps, JNL Sports Complex Bracknell, 13-17 Feb
If you’re not heading off the Alps *sniff*, treat yourself to some hot wine and a cheese fondu – and pack your kids off to the dry slope in Bracknell for ski or snowboarding lessons. Trust me all the cool kids are doing it, with our current top-flight tricksters at the Winter Olympics having honed their skills on the white carpet. JNL Sports is Bracknell is running camps over half term for skiers and boarders of all abilities. With temperatures flirting at freezing point, a water based activity may not spring to mind. But that’s what wetsuits are for, right? They’ll be fine. Play in a Day, The Watermill Newbury, Mon 12 and Tues 13 Feb
If you have a child desperate to follow the theatrical Yellow Brick Road , then book them in to The Watermill’s Play In A Day workshop. Open to children aged 8-11 (12 Feb, 9am-12noon); ages 12-16 years (13 Feb, 1pm-4pm), they’ll devise, rehearse and perform their very own production. Scribe Tribe, Ascot Durning Library, Tue 13 Feb
Think you’ve got a Michael Morpurgo or JK Rowling in your family squad? Fuel their passion for fiction and drop them off at Ascot Durning Library from 10.30am-2pm to learn how to get great at writing. Suitable for kids aged 9-15, your bookworms will learn from award-winning author Ali Sparkes. You can then retire and live a wonderful life wafting about in a kaftan, drinking bubbles all day. Theme Park Workshop, Brickies Club, Windsor and Maidenhead, Mon 12 Feb
In an attempt to avoid the horror of soft play during half term check out Brickies. They are running a two-hour Theme Park themed Lego workshop aimed at 5-11 year olds. A week before the grand opening of Brickies World and the park is hit by a horrendous hurricane. Time is ticking and the Brickies team need desperate help to rebuild the park to ensure it is ready for the big day!. The mission starts at 10am.
